How does Eco-Drive by Citizen work?

The technology known today as Eco-Drive was created in 1976 by Citizen.
The Eco-Drive movement is designed to transform light (natural or artificial) with any degree of intensity, into energy capable of making watches work, therefore eliminating the need of batteries.
According to Citizen, watches using Eco-Drive technology have eliminated the use of more than 10 million batteries in the US alone.
This is great news for the environment and an important step towards redugin pollution.
