I chopped 12 inches off my hair recently but before that I used to do this all the time! You did such a great job explaining what to actually do I never could when I tried to tell my friends but I’ll send them this video to explain!

Note: For thick hair, try not to wrap your hair too tight around your finger/hand. Also, you can do two bun instead or until you get used to doing it.
Most, if not all, Indian learn to tie their hair this way. When I straighten my hair, it won't stay in a bun, so I put on a hair band after tucking in the tail end &/or a decorative mini claw clip at the tail end to secure the hair in place. This way the bun will definitely last longer.

I used to do this when I was an archaeologist. Six weeks in the middle of flipping nowhere and minimal personal care (if someone was on their period they got first shower dibs so it was often the case I washed in sun-heated water from a local stream stored in a plastic tank) meant no matter how many elastics I had, I could never find one when I needed if. I didn't even learn it from anywhere, it just made sense to me to tie my hair in a knot of some form!

Oh my gosh I used to work at a nursing home that had an Indian resident there with dementia, she would always do this with her hair so effortlessly and I'd always try to remember what she did but never could

This is so genius!

Thanks for tip. Helps a lot since my cat likes to steal my hair tie and hide it

I have long hair like 80 to 90cm or so so i rarely find any hairstyles for buns or so. I just need a way to do a bun so if i go into the water in summer, my hair doesn't get wet. I tried this and honestly, usually, no tutorials work for my hair. But i was so surprised that it worked and is also really stable. Additionally, it really doesn't hurt your head. Thanks❤

My hair is a little thick for me to complete pushing it through, but i use a hair stick/pencil to lock it into place instead and its such a solid bun

Honestly, loose buns can feel way more painful than very secure buns, like this. When the hair is loose, it kind of bobs around a lot and ends up pulling on the hair with more force (especially with mine, since it's over 3 ft long and pretty thick). Love styles like this!

i tried this as a high bun and i found it to be even more secure and comfortable, perfect for when I want my face framing pieces out my face

Thx. My hair is in a ponytail and 2 braids and I tried and still worked even with my hair in braids already which makes me even happier is a good bun made of braids I have to keep my hair in braids or it's not eligible for a brush at the end of the week. I prefer no elastics and a updo for a week and to reset my hair each day. This is perfect. I was using combs with elastics between them and that does ok but this is way better.

Thank you for this nice tutorial...I am Indian, and some of my friends do this hairstyle everyday . I always struggle to do this properly. Now I did this perfectly.
