Never Order This When You Eat At Sonic

Nobody goes to a fast food restaurant expecting to get anything that's healthy, exactly. But even with that in mind, some things on a fast food menu are more reasonable in terms of sugar, salt, fat, and calories than others. And there are some ticking time bombs listed, too.

Take Sonic Drive-In, for example. Lots of things on the menu look appetizing, from the tater tots and coney dogs to the milkshakes and burgers. According to employees, however, some of those menu items are best avoided, either because they are even more unhealthy than the typical fast food fare, or the standard prep techniques aren't entirely safe. So remember to never order this when you eat at Sonic.

These Mashed videos make the assumption that anyone who would ever consider obtaining anything from a fast food franchise would ever expect that their food would be actually healthy. The opposite is true. Anecdotally, I have always realized that my crossings to the 'dark side' are well considered. I know that the food I will receive from fast food is junk. I occasionally obtain it anyway, because I like it. I don't want to be that person who lives to 103 never having ever enjoyed life to its fullest.

If "healthy eating" is what you're looking for then eat at home. Sonic has a great menu!

Most sonic locations have been understaffed, I don't see them staying after hours without pay to clean the machines. The last location I visited there was two people working there with a line down the highway It was crazy. I know they're not going to be allowed over time so who's staying after work cleaning everything? Nuts.

Important to remember, just because a “former employee” said something on reddit doesn’t make it true or mean it’s happening in more than one restaurant. That being said I worked as a carhop, cook and assistant manager at a sonic for a total of 3 years and lots of this was true to my knowledge

It used to be common practice in good icecream shops/shacks to use one of the several (20+) stainless steel cups with notches on the side for measuring/mixing shakes and malts.
A special cleaning cup first for the mixer blades before each use.
Then add/mix ingredients for shake/malt using measuring notches.
Then pour it into the serving cup/glass.
Then put the used stainless mixing cup into the wash/rinse/dry area for cleaning.
Then pull another stainless mixing cup from the clean stack for the next customer order.

i hated working here so much lmao- near the end of my time there they started making us put premade burgers in water so they weren't dry, which was kinda weird

When I worked for Sonic the eggs were pre-made and frozen kinda of like what you would see on a microwavable breakfast sandwich. And the filling for the burritos was the same just sliced into strips and various meats added

Eggs outside of America are also not processed the same, so they might be safer at room temperature.

An anti-Sonic commercial. The fact is, all fast food restaurants are unhealthy and nasty in many ways. Unless you cook at home, you are at the mercy of those places.

Sugar free slushes don’t exist. I worked at Sonic and I NEVER lied to anyone about the slush flavors or anything.

I only go to Sonic for their breakfast food served during lunch time, their tots and of course their slushies.
