Nothing ruins eating out like learning about food safety. I had 3 courses teach about it in 1 semester in college and eating out has never been the same since.

I’ve worked in Restaurants and I’ve never given a table a leftover bread basket and I’ve never seen anyone do that.

Completely agree about the sprouts. Went to dine at a restaurant with 20 relatives for a birthday celebration and 2 days later 8 of us got sick, myself included. We all met at the establishment and went our separate ways after we were done so the only thing we had in common was eating there. After multiple complaints the restaurant tested the food that was left and, surprise surprise, the result showed that the culprit were the sprouts placed on every dish.

As a bartender, I can definitely confirm the ice thing. There have been many a times I had to pick out ice with black s**t on it before serving it to a guest
Garnishes too!🤢

I’ve had some of this and yet I’ve never had a problem from it so far. I’ve mostly been eating more diner food than fast foods. I’ll be aware of this and be careful.

I've worked in restaurants all my life. 45 years of food service. I have done every job possible in a restaurant. I can count on one hand how many times I've seen an ice machine cleaned out. The two reasons I've done it is broken glass and the machine broke down and had to be worked on. As far as oysters, there are a few ways to minimize the risks. 1. Never order an oyster if you're not within a couple hours transport from the place they were harvested. So, if you're in a non-coastal state, NEVER. I don't care how strict they are about refrigeration and sanitization. There's a much greater chance of the truck they were in losing freon or the compressor breaking down and this going unnoticed. So, it may FEEL cold to the driver, but it could be warm enough to grow dangerous bacteria. Also, kitchens are busy places. I can't tell you how many times I've heard someone say, Just put it in front of the walk in (refrigerator) and I'll get it in a minute. Two hours later...
If you're inland and the restaurant is high end, you might be safer. Most unincorporated restaurants can't afford to turn revenue like that away on delivery and take more risks because they'd lose money. One item the list was missing is bread pudding! This is the shittiest item I've ever served, and I've served it at Ruth's Chris, now owned by Olive Garden, I hear. Bread pudding is stale, leftover bread, tons of eggs, vanilla, sugar, milk or cream, depending on the style. It's junk box food and deserves to be remanded to a dark history where chefs cook garbage and charge too much for the crap. Stale bread is for good croutons, not bad deserts! If you see bread pudding on the menu, walk out!

I had brunch at Bristol a few weeks ago and had raw oysters, eggs Benedict and a cocktail on the rocks with a maple bacon garnish and I survived. I deserve a t-shirt!

FYI I currently have a jar of Jiffy peanut butter that's been recalled due to salmonella. Grocery stores are not exempt or safer. Always wash your produce, pay attention to recalls, and smell your food always. And don't panic, you can encounter bacteria that causes food borne illnesses and not be affected every time. You can still enjoy things.

Ive worked in the Food Industry for over 15 years and yes, some places have bad habits when it comes to proper food handling and storage, but this video almost makes it sound like you should never go out to eat AT ALL. Most of the places I have ever worked, especially since COVID, go above and beyond to make sure things are clean and fresh. This video seemed very 1 sided and anti-restaurant. Even saying "if you buy it at the store you will be fine, just don't order it at a restaurant". Even though, if you ask me, food at the stores are even worse because you have about 1000x more people touching EVERYTHING!

The parts about raw oysters and mussels are correct. My stepfather wouldn’t eat raw oysters unless he harvested them himself.
I also think lemon and lime wedges sit for HOURS before they are put in drinks.

Ehh, I just get McDonald's and call it a night. Great job once again, MsMojo!

I would never eat raw oysters after I first watched Mr Bean in Room 426 when I was a kid. I still have ice cubes in water only in the summer and I still fancy the salad bar whenever I go to Pizza Hut.

the only thing on this list that seemed scary was the seafood, and I don't have to worry about that because of allergies.

I think considering COVID and the contagion movie, some restaurants give you individual servings of those goldfish or peanuts. They give it to you right when you sit. You are not dipping in to a bowl that was already “manhandled”.

I think it might be the same with the bread.

I also think it depends on how many stars the restaurant has. The ones with higher health and star ratings have fresher ingredients and not just giving you staler food.

Wish people took time to clean the machines though. Don’t need those lawsuits on your hands. It is part of your job. But I get people are busy but maybe each person can have a schedule of when they clean the machine and than switch to the next person.

I worked as a waitress at a steakhouse and the leftover bread from customer's table was chopped up into cubes for croutons on the salad bar!!

Many many years ago, I worked as a waitress at this Italian hole in the wall restaurant, it was complete crap and rip off by the way, (you could make better food at home) the first day I worked there, after clearing off the table and bringing the bread basket in the kitchen, I got yelled at after I dumped the used bread from the basket into the bin. I was told to dump the bread back into the bread container to be reused for the next table. I was disgusted and stated my opinion on the matter but with no luck. There were also more health violations there but that’s for another day. I didn’t last but a few days there. I couldn’t morally and ethically stay knowing what was going on in the kitchen. They didn’t last long either. I don’t remember if I called on then or not. But knowing me I probably did.

I never thought about the ice and fruit in a drink before. I will remember that! I once got food poisoning for 3 days at least after eating shrimp at this restaurant called Club Lucky in Shitcago. This was many years ago but I never went back again nor have I ever had shrimp again !! Also, I used to fancy the bean sprouts but after getting sick from them once I never had them again nor will I. Food scares me 😱 but the people preparing and responsible for it scare me more!
