Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide © 2014 | From the port of Kuşadası, we wander the streets of ancient Ephesus, soak in a natural spa at Pamukkale, learn why the dervishes whirl at Konya, munch lunch in a Turkish pizzeria, and cruise the Mediterranean on a traditional Turkish gulet from Antalya. Turkey is a mighty nation whose ancient heritage, Muslim faith, and western ways are coming together...and we’ll see how. #ricksteves #ricksteveseurope #turkey

What I like about Rick Steve is that he is so positive about the people and places he presents. At a time when we're all becoming very suspicious or each other, Rick still shows us as common people, with hospitality towards visitors, pride in our customs, and more in common than differences. Thanks Rick.

We've been watching Turkish soap operas here in Puerto Rico. And they are very good. Translated into the Spanish language of course.

You made me realize how much I miss Turkey. We were stationed in Izmir. I lived on the first cordon overlooking the bay. Really miss the people. Travelled a lot. Best assignment ever.

Turkish people are not European nor Asian. We're Eurasian.
My mom's half Bulgarian (Pomak) and half Circassian.

My father's mother was half Kurdish half Turkish and my father's dad was half Greek half Turk from Crete.

What do you think am I? European or Asian? I have light brown hair, green slender-ish eyes and white skin.

As I told you, We're Eurasians, we Turks have roots from Asia and Europe at the same time.

I spent a semester as an international student in Konya. It was my first time in Turkey and really allowed me to experience this side of Turkiye outside the tourist areas. It was definitely more "conservative", although there were some areas of the city not quite as much....After this, I got to know Istanbul in depth (including staying there three months in 2015). This last June (2017), I stopped over in Turkey again while on a trip to Avrupa, and this time visited Izmir. Its a shame Rick didn't show much of this beautiful city. I spent a week there (including a side-trip to Selcuk and Efes) and was astounded at the sites, stories and especially the Ege pace of life.
