How To: Failed Cement Based Overlay Removal by Diamond Grinding
Показать описание
Coating over anything but properly prepared concrete is assuming an adhesion that can’t be verified. Sounding can identify hollow spots, but this is only an indication of adhesion at the time of testing. After some age is accumulated, including a freeze/thaw cycle, any deficient adhesion will likely begin to show itself. This is true for coatings as well as cement based overlays. High performance coatings (overlays, too) may be formulated for durability and longevity. Absent maximum adhesion, even the best coatings and overlays will fail.
The video documents the removal of an overlay that has begun to delaminate. It’s comprised of a base layer (to fill salt spalls) and a topical layer (decorative finish). Because the base layer has begun to detach from the concrete slab, the topical layer is obviously affected. Before any further work can be done, all the old stuff gets to be removed. A hand-grinder does a good job to remove the bulk and a crack-chaser cleans the rest.
