You Probably Should Have Read the Bible | Franciscan University | EP 251

This episode was recorded on April 4, 2022.

In this speech at the Franciscan University of Steubenville, Jordan shared recent thoughts on ethics, scripture, and the problem of perception. He asked the audience to reflect on how we remember great stories (but seem to instantly forget bad ones), why Western culture ended up being a book (instead of—say—a sickle), and whether the West truly is a “phallogocentric" culture.

All of this, Jordan says, tied to a broader possibility—perhaps his “most radical claim"—that, as we navigate the value structures we call reality, a lot of so-called “navigational” problems are really veiled ethical ones.

I need to thank you JP for bringing me to Christ. I found you when I was a hardened atheist, and miserable. To fast forward a lot of years, I just got baptized in Jesus’ name last Sunday 🕊💗 thank you! God bless you all

Its amazing seeing a future historical thinker while he's still alive. What comes after him that's thanks to him will in no doubt be overwhelmingly positive for all of us.

Thank you for uploading all these lectures and discussions for free. I have been stuck in China throughout the pandemic and listening to these keeps me sane and educated simultaneously.

I’m not very religious, simply due to not being raised very religious, however I have almost all traditional Christian values and I’m starting to read the Bible cover to cover, super excited

Quite incredible speech. One of the greatest minds in our lifetime. Canada’s university’s loss has been the worlds gain. That is if you are listening with an open mind. Thank you Mr. Peterson

I started reading the Bible thanks to your lectures, and when I found my faith my depression went away just like that, and now I think to myself ”what a blessing this day is” every time I go outside. Dr Peterson, you saved my life. God bless you.

My mom read the entire Bible several times to me as a child. Then i read it myself. I just assumed every Christian read the Bible.
To my utter shock, almost every Christian I've ever met in my entire adult life - has never read the Bible.
It's always my mission to get Christians to actually read the book and not just sheep through their life.

I saw this live and it blew my mind. The thing that kept running through my head the entire time listening to him was "I can't believe I'm listening to Jordan Peterson." This man truly is larger than life, most of the doctors and professors in the room looked like incoming freshman furiously taking notes listening to him speak.

We are blessed to listen to Dr. Peterson who will go down as one of the most influential thinkers in the West.

Closing in on 5M subs. How remarkable is that. We are blessed to be alive today. When times are perilous great men rise.

What an remarkable human being. The process of thought here is astounding. I'm so glad you do this Dr Peterson, . It's teaching me to think through things differently and is bearing much good fruit. May God continue to bless you and keep you...Lord knows we (the world) needs more like you.

I love how he says we can’t focus on the facts, there’s too many to keep track of.

Thank God all i have to do is love God with all my strength and mind and heart and soul and He takes over and does it all for me! Praise God, thank you Jesus!

I am so glad that I have had an opportunity to follow Peterson from the beginning of his original struggle with University. I have learned so much by his teaching and Thorough explanations of his thought process. And now renewing my mind of the truth that is in the historical books of the Bible with meaning.
May God continue to bless you and your family with good health and safety as you continue reaching out to the world to make it a better place.

Doctor Peterson went through some rough times. It's great to see that he's through that.
Now he's back to doing what he loves most and that is thinking deep thoughts and actually coming up with discernable answers. He's having fun and I'm grateful that he's sharing it with us.

Saw this when I woke up. Figured I'd watch a couple minutes before making breakfast. 54 minutes later, I'm still in bed, haven't showered, haven't eaten. As always, one can never just watch a few minutes of a Dr. Peterson lecture; they're just too damn interesting and profoundly deep.

This lecture was amazing. It's like 5 years worth of lectures condensed into just the necessary words. Nietzsche would be proud!

That's it, I'm convinced. I will FINALLY read the Bible. I've always been aware of its importance, but it had never had this much importance to ME. Now I feel like I MUST read it.

I have had this thought before. My mother and I would discuss the reason for organized religion, her for, me against. Anyone can be ethical without religion, I would say. She would say but who would determine the ethics? I miss our talks. Thank you, for allowing me to visit her through your words.
