TIA Portal and PLC SIM not working ?!

I had this problem too and acoording to comments when I did it worked my case too. You should change select version higher 4.0 . Consequently your program required 4.0 later to work well. Have a nice work.

Go to project properties (above "Add new device")> Protection: and switch on "Support simulation during block compilation"

I have win 8.1, you are right it seems that v14 have a problem, but when I installed the v14sp1 it worked fine, thanks again to propose this issue

Based on the comments below, there is no issue with V15.

The issue is the difference between CPU Tian Portal and PLC_SIM. You have to choose the same PLC. It will work fine. For is ok.

Hello pete i experienced that alot in my tia portal v13 if tia portal v13 sp1. i only installed what is in the package of sp1. if i download something that is not part in sp1. my plcsim always in error. i think whats in the package of version u stick to that.

Firstly, My os is Wİndows 8.1. I have Tia Portal V14 SP1 version and using PLC Sim's virtual plc. And I don't prefer executing PLCSim program by directly clicking shortcut, instead, just click the "start simulation" symbol on the Tia Portal.

I had some issues regarding to PLCSim. After some steps I solved the issue that about plcsim configuring and downloading. The error wasn't exact same error (aborted error) but it was some other error like synchronization and configuration problems.

1. I introduced Tia Portal and PLCSim exe files to my virus programme as secure application (if you use windows security wall you can do the same thing also).

2. Using Tia Portal shortcut file, I reached target directory. On there, after Shift+Right Click combination, clicked "open command window here" tab. Copied the exe file name (Siemens.Automation.Portal) paste it on window and run it. That's all . After it open, you can close the command window and start using Tia Portal.

Not sure that which step is the effective one . I hope it would be helpful to someone.

For everybody which have this problem: The problem is because of an incompatibilty between the simulator and the choosen PLC. Try to choose a PLC 1500 1511-1 PN and choose also in the Simulator a PLC 1500.

Faced same Issue just updated CPU from the add devices list from v2 to V4 and its working everything fine without do any other change

That is a bug for tia v14 . please turn off the plcsim and start the plcsim again in the menu bar and there you go .

I read that TIA portal wont work on windows 10 with PLC Sim unless its updated to SP1. I have the same problem, except I cant even open the "Extended Download to Device" window, it skips straight to Load, which proceeds to give me those same errors. Trying the SP1 and seeing if that fixes it.

had the same problem with 1214 tried everything from check the box for simulation, to update the plc sim (this last one cause the plc sim to dont open anymore) , and the problem was the plcsim ver, suggest to download the plc sim current ver from the page of siemens

When I am trying to start plc sim 14, it is showing error ' the computer must be restart before using s7 plc sim' .
What can I do??

I had this problem. I found the solution in the Siemens forum.


"The most likely cause of this error is an incorrect firmware version. PLCSIM supports simulation of the S7-1200 firmware version V4.0 and later. If the CPU in your project is an older firmware version, then attempting to download this to PLCSIM will result in the described error. "


I changed the firmware version and it works!
