I saw two of them in my area, just outside my town in a field close to some woods. They were way too big to be bobcats and they were pitch black. Very beautiful creatures. I've been researching them ever since to confirm my sighting, it's good to know I'm not the only one who's seen them recently.

you can't assume everyone Is seeing something as simple as a black dog or house cat though. you have to be open minded on the possibility

Whatever the name for it is, black ccougars" have been seen and reported in middle Tn over 50 years ago. With the same sound as a mountain lion, a family member of mine was hunted by one and the only way she survived was hiding in a barn as the animal circled waiting. Extremely rare. But definitely reports of them.

Everytime I see nope in the comments it drives me up the wall. I've sighted two black panthers one at night when riding my 3-wheeler which I chased through the neighbors yard and under their street light, then another one morning when I and 3 friends set out to go hunting. It is possible that this was the same cat. I also found the den and tracks behind the neighbors house across the street. The cat I saw was heavy bodied, with stocky shoulders and a long thick tail. The sighting that took place at night the cat was spotted crossing an opening in the woodline headed back across the road, he must've stopped for a second to look our direction and got blinded by the headlight because I don't think he anticipated being chased and either way he was not "running" away, but rather quickly rerouting. It moved slow enough that I could see it was most definitely not a dog, as I had seen the neighbors German Shepherds in this yard many times and it was as big if not bigger. The tail was long and curved yet still stayed a foot above the ground and hardly moved at all even as the animal began to move more swiftly. The second sighting was in broad daylight, the panther slipped out into the cut paused to looked at us boys, ears perked up and then boom gone. This cat was as black as pitch even in the light of day and big as any of us or bigger.
I find it interesting that this is supposed to be some sort of variation, yet there have not been any regular patterned leopard or jaguar sightings around my area, yet I've heard numerous accounts from people all along the Florida panhandle of BLACK panthers! More than regular panthers!?
Invasive or not, I think they have a well established territory and I don't think they share it with regular panthers.
I know where they are! Somebody send me a research team! Lol

There has to be some running around up here in Kentucky. I know that there’s no coyote that big nor that agile/quick as I’ve seen. I was deep in our woods up in Verona KY, checking deer feeders, and out of nowhere I hear something literally full sprinting behind me. As soon as I turn around there’s a huge black cat/feline sitting in a defensive stance. I instantly froze up not knowing how to act because I’ve never seen something like that in these woods. As soon as I go to move it takes off faster than it arrived. I was shook for a while and still refuse to go into the woods without a firearm now. There’s no way that it was a regular bob cat or some kind of K9. That thing was huge and very quick. No type of dog nor cat I’ve seen in person was that quick. And living here in the plentiful lands of Kentucky you see plenty of wild cats and K9s.

Nope. I have seen one. It was no more than 60 feet away. Certainly no house cat. An all black cat the size of a Great Dane.

I’ve seen one from just feet away.. cat at least 250-300 pounds. Tail thick as the thickest part of my forearm. Solid black. The sun was out... Norman, Arkansas off smoky hollow road

Mountain lions are classified as small felids. They are the largest of the small felids. They purr. Big cats don't purr. But you're still awesome. Also, Jaguarundi is also a possibility. Have you ever heard one of them scream?

Most likely released exotic pets only takes a few to get a populations with low genetic variation going. No predictors, a ton of food, yeah they’re here.

The Big Black Cat I saw in S.C. on the 90s was NOT a black Cougar or Bobcat.
It was as large as an adult Cougar but with shorter legs and a longer tail and it was muscular.
When I was a kid long ago the old folks often spoke of what they called "Black Painters"
In other words it is not a recent phenomenon.

is it dna-ly possible that Pumas are cross breeding with melanistic wild or escaped jaguars, and created a population of black hybrids? Or, as I think, it could be an unidentified melanistic species of cat, similar to the cougar, what some would call a Wampus cat, or wampus beast. If it's possible a large primate, and to a lesser extent, a large upright canine type creature could go unknown to science in the United States, then perhaps a large cat species could as well.

Are people still questioning if there are big cats in the UK and Canada yes they are because people illegally sell them then when there too big they get released to the wild and start breeding forming a population the UK government has notice this and made a law that any unhealthy or any exotic animal getting too big should be put down but there where too many so what did they do they released in the wild lands of the UK so yeah thats why there sightings.

Interesting Ken I’ve heard stories of people telling stories of seeing or even being attacked by a huge panther like creature in the US.
