As someone who has gamed online for over 20 years and has had relationships (where we did meet in person) with women outside of those games, you can tell if there is something more and it's being reciprocated. There are plenty of times where people take communication from a game to a different communication platform because it's easier. That doesn't mean they are in love with you. We can insult Marie all day for her voice, appearance, and attitude, but at the same time, she wasn't really asking for anything or doing anything to lead Mark on other than giving him attention (like a friend could) and "be a couple" in the game. Even if she didn't outright say "I'm not interested in you" - her actions didn't say she was either. Hell, I question how you can have a 2 hour phone conversation when the other person is just saying "yeah"... "mmm" ... "tehe" ... "right" ... "sure".
