The greatest human ever walking on this SAINT A guru a sanyasi who searched the truth for nothing but to unveil the truth to the humanity.
An unsung hero. Some wretched minds derailed a great mind like Greesha from his journey to many other stations of the most beautiful branch of knowledge, MATHEMATICS.

Great mathematician. Every time I visit St.Petersburg and the Cupchino, district where he lives, it really strikes me that such a big genious walks the same streets as I do. Воистину великий человек Григорий Яковлевич Перельман.

A talent is not and should not be for sale! Simpky put, it's priceless. Perelman, certainly, knew this. What a principled man he is.

@2:21 - you should not say what Grigori feels or thinks. If Grigori thinks or feels something, he will say it. Until then, he is his own man. The rest is silly conjectures.
I read he didn't say anything about proving the conjecture with this and he left it to others to see what was or was not done by him.
I respect his meekness and think he should be left to what helps him produce what he produces and that's it.
This video is a testament to exactly what Perelman does not want and so I feel it is disrespectful. Perelman could be spoken about without so many gratuitous photos.
If he wants to wait for history to celebrate his image, then I think we should honor that. Because I like Perelman too and I listened to what he said.

Perelman readily admitted that Hamilton's development of Ricci Flow was instrumental in his proof of the Poincare Conjecture in 3d.

Grigori refused the medal because if he and Terence Tao were on the same room, the universe would be in danger.

Finally a person in this era with a great potential and who doesn’t value money or fame

I understand exactly why he refused it. He saw the bullshit and politics in the sciences and mathematics communities. He saw a perversion of the craft and the systematic dehumanizing of the craft for ulterior motives. He knew how dark and evil it was in academia, and he rightfully wanted nothing to do with that nonsense. Accepting the fields medal would give him more trouble down the road than it was worth.

He had Asperger syndrome and like many with this condition, feels awkward with fame and adulation. They should have quietly given him the money and medal without any pomp and 'fuss' as he would have called it and he could have continued his contributions to mathematical knowledge. Poor people lead a very tough life in that part of the world.

He is right. But it's up to someone to be arrogant or not when he is honored. You can stillbe simple and human not seeking wealth, money and fame.

the aspect of fields of study not taking new ideas into consideration likely plagues nearly every field of study. historians don't want their conventional narratives challenged. doctors often don't want to try new treatments (for instance people were developing immunotherapies for cancer as early as the 1920's, but it has only recently began to be take seriously), archeologists clung to the clovis first dogma for decades despite it being demonstrably false and suppressed research that would challenged it (as well as continuing to reject the idea of an ice age civilization to this day), the economics profession still largely clings to pseudo-intellectual keynesianism, etc.

so this doesn't surprise me. hopefully the internet will allow us to develop knowledge in an open transparent and peer to peer fashion, and we can disregard the hindrance of instructional academia
