X owner Elon Musk could “stop every means of communication” for the Brazilian army following the south American country’s ban on the social media, Science Po Paris Lecturer Fabrice Epelboin told FRANCE 24, adding that the Brazilian military relies on Starlink, which is owned by Musk’s company SpaceX, to communicate.

If that's really true and the Brazilien army rely on a foreign private business for all their military communication, that's just silly, it needs to be change immediately regardless of this little argument.

Lol, who is this guy and how much idiocy can one say in such short time. Even the basics.. Free speech is a concept and right that predates the USA- by a lot - with strong roots in Europe. Roots in Greek democracies, advocated for by members of the judicial system, politicians and academics in the UK such as Milton and Edward Coke in the 1500-1600s. First freedom of the press act was in Sweden in 1766. Freedom of speech was made a human civil right in France in 1789 a straight out of the drivers of the French Revolution.

This guy needs to get informed.

Not true, freedom of speech is granted by articles 5 and 220 of the Brazilian Constitution. Please don’t mislead people to believe this is an American invention.

Elmo did not have a problem when Erdogan and Modi told him to limit certain things on twitter last year. So much for free speech.

There is a distinction to be made between "Free speech" & libel, disinformation, misinformation & incitement to violence.

In the UK, Article 10 of the 1998 Human Rights Act protects our right to freedom of expression: Everyone has the right to freedom of expression. This includes the right to express your views aloud (for example through public protest and demonstrations) or through: Published articles, books or leaflets, television or radio broadcasting, works of art, the internet and social media.
The same applies in the EU through the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights

He would do us Brazilians a huge favor if he banned our fifth column military from Starlink, an American Trojan Horse threatening our sovereignty.

Brazil has laws. He must follow them if he wants to do business there. End of story. This is not censorship, it's reasonable restrictions on misinformation and hate speech.

Why are serious people even use twitter to communicate? It's a kids' platform meant to tell their friends what they are eating for lunch ffs.

In Brazil there are laws and companies that do not comply are punished.
May it serve as an example for all Big Techs

Bullying, insults, threats, and extortion attempts are all the right-wing has left in the U.S., and Musk is no exception even when dealing with foreign governments unimpressed with such histrionics.

I think it's about time for us brazilians to do MORE agreements with China and leave the US for the past. These people never helped us in any way. Go brics and Mercosul. We can do a lot together all south america and Brics.

This commentator does not know what he’s talking about. He is full of contradictions. At the beginning, he talks about how Twitter was censoring content (anti-free speech) which is why it was banned and then he shifts into arguing that free speech is only an American thing and has no place in European democracies (and the rest of the world).

Not a problem for democracy, democracy can exist without Twitter. Misleading people isn’t a right.

Musk has given a huge platform to far right content since he bought twitter and renamed it X.He will be forced to muffle some of the abrasive nd obscene
content .

It's not about free speech. Just because someone is rich, doesn't make them above the law.

Good for Brazil. As said in the interview, laws of US shouldn't apply to other countries automatically, even manually lol
