Be cautious when attempting this trick. As you’re trying the pretzel, it can be easy to catch an edge, so watch out for that one. I suggest practicing the hot garbage a bunch before adding the pretzel.
-
-
1) I like to set up for this trick like a frontside 180 off the toes. I get on a slight toeside edge, flex my knees, and close my lead shoulder.
-
-
2) For the Hot Garbage, you need to shift your weight back, rotate your hips and board up the hill and then retract your lead knee raise the nose. After doing all this, you will be pressuring the tail. Again, practice this a bunch to get super comfortable with the movement.
-
-
3a) When you add the pretzel, things get a bit more complicated. While my lower body is doing the hot garbage, my back shoulder is driving down the hill super aggressively. As you watch the video, you’ll see my upper, and lower body is extremely counter-rotated. The shoulders are going to help create momentum in the opposite direction.
-
-
3b) Simotaiously, as all that is happening... I’m extending my back leg/ pushing off the ground right as I started the pretzel. This extension tells the rest of my body its time to pretzel, and it also gives me a bit of extra air.
-
-
4) As I start the pretzel, I drive my back shoulder down the hill to start the momentum. Once I’m in the air, I retract my knees and drive my board down the hill to complete the pretzel. You’ll notice in the slow-mo clip that my upper body counter rotates, and I do that to get my board to complete the rotation.
-
-
5) I love landing on my toeside edge but ONLY when my board is pointed down the hill. To land on the toeside edge, I shift my center of mass over the toe side edge while driving my back knee over my back toe. Rewatch the video as needed to understand this wild trick.
