In this video we show you how to set up Room EQ Wizard (REW) for acoustic measurement and analysis. We demonstrate the basics of using REW to measure frequency response, SPL, decay times and more, as well as how to set up the limits, viewing ranges how to generate a waterfall graph.

Thank you for the informative video. Might I suggest you reduce the horrible background music? We are audiophiles after all...

This is one of the most informative tutorial with a well detailed direction on how to operate the system

you know, we came here because we already want to use REW to help our room sound system, we don't need several minutes explaining why were here and all the bull. Just get to the actual TUTORIAL that you so proudly put in all

Thanks, it would be great to get a video explaining what to look for, how to understand what you see, what would be an ideal graph.

I was hoping this new video tutorial would be much better than the one that has been around for ages with which I have never been able to measure. My audio interface has more than 2 i/o so I purchased a small behringer one that REW recognizes, but I could never properly setup the output settings. With this USB mic, everything seemed simpler at first glance, but as others mentioned, how the hell do you set up your speakers? In the other old video, you had to create a loop with your interface, meaning you had to disconnect your speakers from the main interface to use the compatible one. I refuse to go through all that hassle for a measure that takes one second. I may be dumb, or lazy, but I just haven't been able to measure in years, and I had hope this video would bring some clarity in 2025. None of that and back to square one. I would love to have a part of the video covering set up for different gear, especially when it comes to setting up the output. Thanks

For heaven sake lose the annoying background music.

It would be nice to know what to look for in the waterfall and spectorgram plots so we can see what needs to be addressed and the improvements made after treatments are installed.

4:25 - What specifically are we to look for when enabling PHASE with respect to the Frequency Response plot?

Like some others mentioned here, the video provides good details on how to do things. However, as you mentioned, things may appear foreign, so even if you explain that things can be cleared up and enhanced visually, many of us don't know what to make of the squiggly lines or the waterfall. Hell, I don't even see a waterfall. They look like a mountain landscape to me, and I don't know what to make of it at all.

Thank you for this video it's a great help. I Am going back for another round of measurements of my room and have always taken 3 measurements: Left Speaker, Right Speaker and Both. Why do you say the only measurements you want are of the left and right by themselves? When we are listening/working in our room I assume everyone has both speakers on at the same time. Why wouldn't we want a measurement of the room in the exact same state? Thank you again.

nicely done. i would only suggest adding a view of impulse response to consider addressing reflections.

Should the approach be to take measurements in a number of different listening positions in order to determine the best listening position PRIOR to prescribing acoustic treatment? Also should the approach include experimenting with different speaker locations?

Does it only make sense to measure at the listening position? Why wouldn’t you use both L and R speakers for output during measuring since this is how sound with always enter the room?

I was told that this program would allow to set the best speaker position and my listening position. As a start, how do I do this?

Should these measurements be taken with room correction disabled?

Do you still need to calibrate the sound card, if you use the digital output?

Thank you for the informative video. Can you please comment on how to apply the microphone calibrations [UMIK-1] and which of the two calibration files should I use? Thanks!

Thanks a lot for this tutorial. I have maybe silly question, forgive me…how do I connect REW to my sound-system, laptop’s USB output to DAC’s USB input?

Alright, im new to this so be gental. Im a bit confused and im lookibg for a bit of clarity. I have a pair of Kef Q350's, a Denon X1800H and will be adding a Rythmik 12 inch sub very soon. If I use the USB mic, this program and my laptop to get my room measurments to correct any issues what content am I playing for play back from my AVR in order to get said measurments? Am I missing something in this video?
