Politics are firmly divided in Oregon—so much so that an organized group of Oregonians wants to secede from the state and become a part of Idaho. In his latest for Alta Journal, contributor Julian Smith introduces us to members of the Greater Idaho Movement, who feel that the state’s politics have become too liberal to represent their interests, along with some of the residents who oppose the concept—or find it altogether impossible. Divided... give me a break. Most Oregonians I know in the east, west, north, south or central, take a live and let live mentality. It's a free country. If you don't like living in Oregon, you are free to leave any time. I was born and raised here, moved back after some time in other parts of the country, and am so happy to be home. Keep Oregon, Oregon.
