I tried this and it works the best of any method I have tried before. I wet it down, thoroughly scrape it 2 or 3 times and then wash thoroughly with a hot water sponge a couple of times. Cannot believe the amount of glue that comes off the wall. On the damp wall I cannot feel any stickiness. I use a spray bottle with HOT water as opposed to using the large bristle brush. The walls could not look any better !! Thanks for the useful tip.

That is the best way to do it. I have found using a 3 or 4 inch blade is better as larger blades tend to bow a little and you will miss bits. One reason for making this video is because most people wash the walls down with a sponge and unfortunately that doesn't remove all the glue, some times it just spreads it. The best method is scraping, either while using a steamer or after. Also trying using a filling blade next time, they have a slightly sharper edge (depending on the brand).

Good video, over the years we do as you do and have found its best to always use a quick dry oil based undercoat just in case, the glue does not react again as it would with water based.
Just done two walls this morning.I hate the stuff.

I just finished removing wallpaper and the sizing from a customers' walls and did basically the same thing as shown in the video, except I used a wet sponge first to make the surface moist and then used a razor scraper. Also, it is helpful when using a wallpaper steamer to try and remove as much of the sizing during that step as possible.

Thanks for the instructions.  The previous owners had a professional wallpaper hanger install the vinyl paper. It was back in the mid-fifty's. The person must of been paid by the how much paste was used. In just a small area I have scraped off at least 2 pounds of the stuff.  Would never been able to remove this amount of glue so quickly and well doing just the chemical removal method. Question I have is simple, do I now use sand paper due to the glass like finish on walls before painting?

The owner of the house had already used a chemical to remove the wallpaper and as you can see there was still residue on the walls.

I just removed wall paper, after the glue is removed this way, is the plaster ready for a prime coat? If so, which primer do you recommend? For example, Sherwin Williams, has an oil based primer, which raises a question for me: would an oil based primer be proper for their emerald flat paint, which I purchased?

I done this, and used synthetic steel wool, and a rag with soapy water. There are still spots where its a bit slippery with minor glue reside. Is this safe to paint on or should I go over it again? just not sure if some minor residue and spots will ruin the paint job. It's water based. Some of the walls I have gone over 2-3 times. They kind of went nuts with the stuff. Thanks.

Will this method work for removing rugby adhesive in the wall?

I'm using chemical wallpaper stripper in one of those pump spray bottles. Spray wall, leave for couple min and use wider blade like 10" filling knife. After wipe it, sand and rub down and finally give it a coat of zinsser gardz. And you are ready for painting.

Round the corners of your scraper off. It will keep you from accidentally gouging the surface

Yes they all do vary and solid vinyls are the worst.

What about when you have a textured plaster wall? Just scrub, and keep replacing the sponge as it shreds?

do I have to completely remove the glue if we will be doing a skim coat of plaster on the entire wall?
