Different Note-Taking Methods

Mind maps are actually a great method, and very underrated in my opinion. They force you to create your own connections, an active form of learning. You can also do this digitally on an infinite canvas (using something like OneNote), allowing you to easily edit it. Refining these mind maps is also great for revision, as you’re constantly simplifying your notes, once again, an active form of learning. These mind maps don’t have to be neat. Once you have multiple refined versions of a particular mind maps, you can go ahead and create a simplified note, using the outlining method. This really gets your brain working with active learning and ensures that the notes you are taking have meaning.

The best method ive found, dont copy word for word, write down your notes in your own words, in language that you understand, when reading back you understand what it means, your faster, and it actually goes in your brain, and if you dont know what to write for a point u can question the point further so you understand, carried me through my gcses

I find that the "outline" method is the greatest. It looks nice, you can find topics easily, and its just overall easy to do.

I usually make a pair with someone who doesn't understand things easily but is good at taking notes. So I understand the lecture without taking notes and he takes notes. Afterwards, he gets me a copy of them and I help him understand the topic. Worked for my bachelors degree.

You could always do the outline method then go back and "pretty it up". More times going over the notes makes the info stick better!

I guess cornell works, but I’ve been taking notes my way for a long time. Making it slightly aesthetically pleasing and organized WITH the important stuff is how I really succeed

while i dont go for "aesthetic", ive found that adding little random totally unrelated doodles to my notes genuinely help me remember
half of my notes from my math class have binding of isaac doodles interspersed in them
I write quickly but with little focus - adding a doodle forces me to slow down and focus, its been a major lifesaver, even if my anatomy teacher absolutely despised the fact that i doodled on my notes lmao

As an online schooler, I raise you aesthetic outline. Color coded text to keep me on focus, lacking in frilly artwork, but visual fun! Circus themed notes at the very least somewhat motivate me to do stats work.

How do you use cornells when the teacher instantly skips to next slide?

I work for a university and my whole job is coaching students on how to study and effectively prepare for finals. We recommend all of these options for different occasions but I personally love mind/content mapping. I think it’s great for making connections between different subtopics and parts and it’s really easy to glance over and visualize how everything fits together.

It’s the one I use, I was thinking of doing Cornell for Psychology but the. Outline just makes it easier to write more things down.

Multicolor pen, each color is a different thing like light blue being definitions or purple being lists. So when you look back at your notes you can easily identify what you’re looking for based off color. The constant switching also provides a challenge to keep you stimulated during class which personally helps with my adhd

I just write the notes down and turn them into Cornell notes when I’m studying. Helps me remember key points!
