good and simple tip to disconnect each coil and listen for RPM 'lack of drop' to spot a faulty coil. Any back-yard mechanic can do it

Awesome explanations; the coils are like the V6 Toyota Sienna I have.

If you suspect the coils (BTW coils will go tend to go bad around the 250, 000 km mark and you have a 4 cylinder engine, just replace the coils. Most 4 pack coils for 4 cylinder engines are less that $100 and that way you are good for another 250, 000 km. Inspect the coils when you have them out and if you see tiny hairline cracks in the coil's shaft end, that indicates the coils are getting old and on their way out. Anther indication is the car's engine will begin to hesitate upon light acceleration and sometimes possibly stall

On a 2010 0r 2011 corolla from my experience and my brothers if one coil is bad change them all. I changed one on a friends car because i only had 1 cylinder misfire code. After i changed it i had intermittent codes on 2 other cylinders. If a coil is dead completely the ECM will turn off the injector. The injectors are easy to get to so you can listen for a click with a screw driver. I wasted time checking for a broken injector wire.

I am having Coils issues with CEL code of P0351/52/53/54 I replaced all Spark Plugs with NGK and all 4 Coils with Denso. And I'm still having the same issues. The cars has cut off on me while taking off at a stop sign or light and sometimes it has cut off while parked. It's 2006 Corolla CE Manual. Some people have told me it could be the ECU. Others have told me that it could be the fuel pump. Others have told me that it must be a ground problem. I had reputable mechanic check the car and I was told that the wiring is fine, but the mechanic couldn't figure out what was the issue. I've had this car for almost 5 years and it had never given me any issues until now.

I thought you didn't need special tools.

God bless your heart, this is the best ignition coil testing video with the right tool, not the one, where they connect the electrical connector to the tester, while the coil still in the engine, is the coil or plug in question, .I knew my basic electronics was not wrong, thank you, will be buying that orange tool.

This really helped me. However after all this testing, I swapped plugs in cyl 4 to 6 and code followed. I had a failed Iridium plug with only 15, 000 on it. never would have guessed. So I say have a new plug on hand to rule out it besides coil pack

can you verify the wire leads off the coil as I have a diagram which state that what you mentioned to be the power and ground leads are reversed. Also judging by the color of the leads in the video, it may be reversed from what you mentioned.

if the valve cover is leaking a slight amount of oil into the spark/ignition coil tube, would that effect the operation of the ignition coil?

Funnily enough it was the replacement Bosch coil that failed, coil was cracked and molten solder balls. Replaced with NGK.

Hi I know tis video is old but I have a question regarding the connector wires? 2 of the connectors on my Camry completely fell apart and now I am not sure the order in which the wires go back into the new connector I've purchased. How do I know what order the wires go? I have not been able to find a diagram for this particular car. Do you have any pictures I can take a look at to see the order in which the wires are connected?? Or any other way of knowing what order they go???

Helpful.. A friend has a 03 toyota Echo.. It got hot..and lost.power..Lpw oil was one thing I found.. We.towed it in for a diagnosis. .. They found 1 bad coil (or only had 1) They charged $109 for 1 ignition coil..only did one.. 4 New spark plugs and wires..and a oil change.. $550 buck's! I'm seeing much lower cost on those parts...feel she got taken.. Most.of those thongs I could have done but she proceeded.. Is that a Deal or what..? 😮
