I think A24 is going to deliver next year. Pearl and barbarian we're so mind bending and unique, I'm excited to see what else they have planned.

Huge thank you for not spoiling any of these. I haven't been able to watch a lot of them yet and intend to this month.

For me the two best horror movies this year were "Speak no evil" and "Soft & Quiet". They are two films that leave you reflecting, they have a solid story and they won't leave you indifferent.

I thought Violent Night was so much fun. Even the gore felt comedic mostly. But the comedy mostly landed for me and I just had a good time from start to finish! I love a self aware movie. I thought they managed to blend different generes very well!

It brings me SO much joy that you put *Barbarian* as your #1. Not only that, but putting *Watcher* so high up on the list and even in your Top 5 makes me equally as happy.

I’ve just added a bunch of movies from this list to my watchlist, so thank you for that!

I did a double feature of Pearl and Barbarian at the movies this year and can’t imagine how that would have impacted me if I loved them as much as you did lol. I liked Pearl and while I thought Barbarian was certainly a crazy first watch by the end I wasn’t loving it. I just didn’t love the tone of the second half. Especially in the last 20 minutes or so. Also Watcher was absolutely incredible to me I loved the tension and thought it was a near perfect thriller tbh.

Pearl delivers on almost every aspect. The beauty of it and the underlining horror is untenable. The acting from Mia and the others makes it all the more incredible. Love the period, the style and the music.

I loved Fall. It was so simple, yet it brought out a fear I didn’t even know I had lol. My palms and feet were sweating the entire time. And there was one twist that got me. For a relatively unheard of movie, I thought it was very good.

SO agree with Watcher! It wasn’t talked about enough, the scene on the train had me squirming, she killed that role. Glad it’s got your recognition

You are absolutely correct about No Exit. The book is significantly better, with Hitchcockian levels of tension basically from beginning to end. And the end is so much better. I'd also recommend Hairpin Bridge, by the same author.

Best: Soft & Quiet (it’s mainly Drama Thriller but there are horror elements in there)

Worst: Blood In The Water

Thank you for acknowledging "Watcher". I also saw it in theaters, it was probably the first horror movie I saw this year and I was so confused why it wasn't getting as much notice as it deserved. This year was such a tremendously good year for horror, particularly original horror films - 2023 has a high bar to clear. Thank you for your channel, you and Emma def influenced many of the films I saw this past year. Have to ask, where did you get the NOPE shirt you wore on one of your reviews? Looking forward to more great content in 2023.

Thank you for listing The House! I absolutely loved that film and you're the only person I have seen mention it.

This is the year I finally started watching horror, I haven’t gotten around to a lot of stuff but so far I’m IN LOVE with bodies bodies bodies! Was very surprised by how fun and accurate it was, def one of my comfort movies almost entirely because of Alice. One of my favorite movie characters PERIOD.

I LOVE Barbarian so much! Went in completely blind and have never been more terrified but have also never laughed harder in a theater ever 😂

definitely agree that Barbarian was the best horror movie this year!! Nope is my second favorite of the year, but i get why it’s not everyone’s favorite jordan peele movie (though it’s definitely mine)

It's funny cause X is a 4.5/5 for me and Pearl is like a 3.5/5 for me. Just goes to show how people can differ, but regardless I love knowing other people's rankings, it's nice seeing other perspectives and to view a movie differently is hindsight

My sweetie and I went to see Black Phone in theaters and we both left feeling like we were missing part of the story. We needed a little more back story on Hawkes character or something. It felt like we came in at the middle.
