A coach from my first league made me play 20 games in a row (over two sessions) of nothing but 7-pin and 10-pin spare conversions (he rigged the setter so those were the only pins that got set). I hate it, and was bored out of my mind. But the next week, my average went up by something like 15-20 points. Blew my mind, and really made me see just how important it is to get those single pin spares 150% solid!

Thanks! & good job you two! Saw you both on TV in the Playoffs. Yeah Im with you guys too, I have a plastic ball but never use it. Just straight wrist and flatten it out

Wow nice video and a life saving video "7" is the most my situation because my hard comfort zone area and i don't know where to position my body when it comes to straight ball direction when it comes to 7th pin

LMAO!!!! Thanks guys, this will come in handy on Tuesday when I take on the Dick Webber pattern with only my reactive ball. I am sure to get plenty of solitary 10 pins and will go far left and throw it as demonstrated. Setting the Jackal loose tonight with your strategy in mind.

Can we just admire the fact of how good of a strike shot that was at 2:57-2:59

What standing way left on the 7 pin? I see a lot of guys doing that out there on tour.

I'd like to see a slow-mo release at the bottom of either one of your swings, or both. I think that's the true "money shot".

This is the KISS principle i use to teach my students (Keep Is Straight & Simple) with ETT (Everything Towards Target). I teach my students to use the oil for their benefit and use indeed middle of the lane because that's where the oil is. Makes it so much easier to shoot corner pins. Although for 10 pin sometimes the ball returns can be a hassle. In my home center the ball return is so far up the approach that for a 10 pin i have to shoot it across the thirth arrow instead of 4th, since i have no room to move further left (at least that is for the even lane numbers)

First thing is you need to practice at shooting just the single pin 7 & 10 do not try to pick the 7 & 10 out from a full rack. Once you get that down then challenge yourself with trying to just take out the 7 & 10 from a full rack.
I’m a lefty and I was terrible at the 7 pin but an old timer told me to look at the pin then shoot at the shadow of the pin on the pin deck.
It didn’t take but a few pitches after that and I was locked on to making those corner pins. I can honestly say I’m at 97% accuracy of covering those corner pins. These guys are correct get yourself a plastic ball for spares.
I just got a new spare ball “widow spare” it has a weight block but it’s drilled flat with the pin up between the fingers. if I need to hook it slightly at a spare I can still do so.

As a two hander, it's really difficult to get a 10 pin, but once you get it down it's easy til you have a ball returner in the way or a wall

I pick up the 10 pin fairly consistently as a right but struggle a lot with the 7. I've been trying to go straight across the lane but I almost always miss left pretty badly. Think I'm going to try hooking it in. Have to wait though. Messed up my wrist a month ago and took a couple weeks off but wasn't fully healed and ended up making it worse than ever so I've had to bench myself.

When you're a righty 2 hander and the ball return gets in your way on a 10 pin and you miss it and your team yells at you :(

Teaching people to flatten their hand and kill the rotation works much better than using non hooking balls at spares.

I don't have room in my bag for a spare ball, as you two don't either, so I just throw it straight at my spares.

Only occasionally will I hook at a spare, like the 2-8, 3-9, Bucket, etc. There is much better miss room and carry by hooking into those types of spares. On the other side of things, throwing straight at a 4-10, 6-7, etc will dramatically increase carry, since you take the lane out of play.

Learning how to change hand position and rotation is a far better skill than to just throw a spare ball the same as a reactive ball. After all..."we ALL through it straight once upon a time, so it IS possible to do it again!" I believe this quote came from Norm Duke!

Do you have any tips for 2 handed righties on the 10? I can't pick em for the life of me. Turn to the left right before getting to the pin. Thanks!

Seems like a lot these replies missed the point. I appreciate the instruction. I’m in the use the same ball for everything camp but I think working on deadening my hand better will improve my percentages. Thanks.

I now carry my new Black Widow Black and Gold as my go to ball. My Old Burgundy hammer for spares and as a slower rolling back up. My Pyramid path as a 10 pin only ball. Still throw the burgundy at the 7. I'm a righty. Wednesday night I had the berries!!

I find that as far as the 10 pin and 6 pin are concerned, as a righty, I use a plastic ball. I break my wrist back and use a suitcase grip going cross alley since staying behind the ball on those spares results in too much hook.

All of your videos are superb! As a lefty I am having problems shooting my 7 pins. Everyone convinced me to go across the lane but I just still struggle with targeting. Can someone tell me how to target the shot. I draw a line between the 13 or 14 board at the arrows down to the pin and am always missing inside. Currently I’ve gone back to throwing it up the 4 or 5 board and only occasionally do I miss into the gutter.
