Star Citizen What's Going On - Jump Points, Tech Preview, 3.24 Delays & CitizenCon
LATEST STAR CITIZEN PATCH ALPHA 3.24 EVOCATI

Star Citizen is an Open Development Alpha Project by Cloud Imperium. It is 2 Games really though, the Persistent Universe that aims to build a First Person MMO Space Sim that encompasses gameplay in ship & on ground, economy and pretty much anything else you can think of. It's built in the StarEngine (a modified Lumberyard Engine). You'll see massive Space Ships that you can fly with friends, land on planets, explore or whatever your way to whatever goal you choose. It's available to try in it's current Alpha State now, you can give feedback & influence the direction of the game BUT it is VERY ALPHA.
Squadron 42 is the Single Player Campaign of Star Citizen & the Spiritual Successor of Wing Commander. The Idea is the game is immersive, cinematic, beautiful & seamless... NO LOADING SCREENS once in game.
Both Games are currently in the Alpha of their development.
I am suspecting to see something more mainstream for Star Citizen's PU by the end of 2024 with permanent progression, though it will be a while after that before the game is considered "feature complete" which would be closer to 2025 in my opinion.
The are no dates for Squadron 42's Release Yet BUT it is now Feature Complete.

I am an Independent Content Creator & Star Citizen Fan. I am not paid by Cloud Imperium HOWEVER I am an Evocati Member and as such I am under an NDA for Closed Early Patch Tests of Star Citizen', known as the Evocati Test Flight (ETF). They occasionally offer me ships for giveaways too, which I will take if they are truely NO STRINGS ATTACHED.
GameGlass, Shadow & NordVPN referrals give me a small kickback, however I am not paid by them for any specific videos or promotion. Unless Otherwise Stated.

I appreciate that CIG isn't going to make jump points a "ride the rails" loading screen.

The jump point group limits will probably be fine for now, but I think that once the game opens up more, those limits are going to get in the way, especially for high traffic systems.

That Terminator impression is top notch...

From what I saw of the "update" about the shooting a burst to open the jump point, it's not that you're not shooting energy into the jump point because you still are it's just that it's not coming from a gun and is instead being "emitted" from the end of the energy field from your ship. So basically it's still you shooting something at the jump point to open it, but it's just not a weapon that's doing it.

I'm still so sad about them removing the rings around jump points... I kind of hoped that they would keep them in order to explain why the main jump points are always open and stable.
While the random jump points would look more "wild".

Man I was really hoping we’d get 3.24 last weekend 😕

9:45 I think you interpreted that wrong. Jared was saying the end of the year is in 5 months, he's not gonna give a date but they're aiming for one in a few months (~3) not 5. So it will be by the end of the year but they're aiming closer than that

i really appreciate that SC is taking some of those menial tasks that other games automate with a button click and wait times and turn them into little minigames, like with mining and now with jump gates. it wont be just a loading screen, but rather hands-on approach to get from one system to another. it will really sell the immersion of being a citizen of the stars!

Three minutes it a pretty big commitment for a game like this. It's like booting up a guitar hero song while playing WOW.

These jump points are going to be popular with the trolls.

3 minutes seems like a bit of a pain for constant attention to avoiding getting kicked out of the jump point. Plus the added stress of valuable cargo if you go missing or need to respawn 🤔 hopefully this isn't as severe as it sounds

I like the idea of a massive wormhole gate on the perm jump points. I hope some of the transient one's don't disappear. It would be cool to build a base at some unknown jump point.

Active flying jump paths? sounds like someone just discovered Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda

Can't wait to find out how the transient jump points work exactly. Imagine we won't just "fall" through em, but will be awesome to find/ see

Last I played Eve, automating IS slower as you state. Instead of jumping gate to gate, it jumps you 10km off the gate and it slowly crawls to the next gate and then jumps. This can give PvPers a bigger opportunity to attack and also have a material time penalty. It is a good system.

I hope some of the 'scanning' ships make it into the ship showdown this year. Giving them some love once jump points are here would be a nice touch.

Considering you're traveling several light years in 3 minutes, this is a short time frame. This also ands depth, different jump drive types could alter the jump experience with some being faster or more stable

The Jump points are really going to need NPC protection but looking how stations work at the moment I dont think we could ever get real protection and these will lead to one way battles.

The new jump mechanics sound really interesting, but the time needed to manage them adds up with all the other tasks. With systems like Pyro and Stanton already in place, I dream of all the possible interactions between them. Because of the nature of these systems, they could develop and implement a lot of smuggling gameplay mechanics, which would be awesome.
