All New 2022 VW Polo GTI 2.0 DSG - Is it the best performance compact hatch?

The volkswagen polo gti has no rival in the compact performance hatch segment in South Africa. it used to compete with Ford Fiesta ST but it has since been discontinued in the Mzansi market. The only competition it has is it's bigger brother, the VW Golf 7.5 GTI and the toyota yaris GR but that's not an apples to apples comparison.

Look, I can see why somebody would opt for this over a 2nd hand Golf 7.5 GTI, but I opted for the Golf for the size (because I have a small family) and power. I got mine (a 2019 model) with ~30000km on the clock for around R500k. Accident free, with all warranties and plans still intact.

With regards to the maintenance and service plan, VW’s on Polo’s are very poor. I have 5 years/90000km on the Golf and a Polo owner has 3 years/45000km. When you buy a ~2 year old Golf with decent mileage and compare it to this new car, service and maintenance are not a significant differentiator.

The only differentiation is that brand new car smell, and tech that’s been introduced that wasn’t present in the older 7.5. And some people prefer that. Good luck to all new owners of this Polo GTI…. they’ll enjoy it!

I have had my 2019 since 2020 and loving it.. Had an Audi before but this car is just different! Am puzzled by the 0-100 in 6.5 comment, i thought we were on 6.7s since both new an previous one have same power output
