"What is calculus?" is a question many calculus students never learn the answer to!

Understanding what calculus is before you start learning how to use it will give you a better context for the whole course.

Calculus is the mathematical study of change, in the same way that geometry is the mathematical study of shape, or that trigonometry is the mathematical study of triangles.

Derivatives and integrals are the major concepts you'll learn in calculus. Derivatives allow you to find slope (rise over run), and integrals allow you to find area.

Hi, I’m Krista! I make math courses to keep you from banging your head against the wall. ;)

Math class was always so frustrating for me. I’d go to a class, spend hours on homework, and three days later have an “Ah-ha!” moment about how the problems worked that could have slashed my homework time in half. I’d think, “WHY didn’t my teacher just tell me this in the first place?!”

I failed Calc 1 three times.. had to transfer to a different community college to finish it.. then through hard work passed Calc 2 and 3. It took me over three year to complete calculus. I hope to whoever is reading this can get some type of motivation from my story and realize that if you try hard enough and put your mind to it you can accomplish anything including passing calculus. ( Krista's videos help also lol )

I'm still getting use to the new channel page as well. My understanding is that video autoplays for non subscribers. Have you subscribed?! :) Either way, I'll continue to look to improve my channel page. Thanks for the feedback!

WOW! Thank you SO much, Krista! I had done a handful of other videos in the past but only one that was on-camera. I'd been procrastinating like crazy, but was so inspired by seeing you all take massive action in such a short time. Your enthusiasm is so encouraging!

Im in Swedens version of highschool second grade out of three(I'm 17) and im currently taking the Math 3 course. We are working with dervivatives. I know all about them, got an A on the test. How does this differ from the derivivatives in calculus? I mean I can decide the speed of change on any value of X, and how the function looks. What more is there to know? We are working with integrals the rest of the course until christmas... Is calculus simply harder or does it introduce new things?

Can you please tell the name software interface you used to teach.

Thanks for your video. Does calculus tie into the idea that a particle/wave's direction of travel and position can't be known at the same moment?

Anyways, I have been teaching Calculus for about 4 years now and I am always willing and excited to help.

I wish I could tell you more, but I can't really say... I never looked for a job in Psychology. When I got out of school I started working in marketing and then I did staffing and then I did IT. Now I'm just doing integralCALC! My understanding is that you can't do much with a psychology degree unless you have a masters or a phd. :/
