Barriers are some of the most prevalent abilities in Jujutsu Kaisen, as a result they also can be pretty complicated so hopefully this video can shed some light.

Getting turned into a transfigured human then going on an rampage then hit with all the information in the universe before having your head ripped off by a wizard is a crazy NPC experience.

For anyone who gives a shit: a circular definition in logic is any definition that's derived from itself. It's like saying "water is wet, because it's water, and water is always wet." You don't get anywhere or gain new information. So the barrier that Yuki fights Kenjaku in just repeats itself, creating the illusion of a space you can move through when nothing really gets closer or further from you. In theory, you could pick a pine tree and walk towards it for a hundred years, only to check and it still looks like you're where you started. Yuki punched Kenjaku so hard that it basically caused the settings to break so badly that Kenjaku glitched out of bounds. I'm sure this is very much a layman's definition, but I think it's useful enough for a start.

Megumi domain is best described as flooding an area with a paintbucket. While sukuna draws in the air using the same paint bucket.

I like the concept of the soul/nervous system being bounded by the barrier of one's ego/body as the most fundamental barrier of a human or cursed spirit, literally separating the self from the outside. It makes me recall watching Evangelion for the first time.

Actually, since Sukuna used it, I think Hollow Wicker Basket has more of a different utility than being an anti-domain technique inferior to Simple Domain: obviously Sukuna has the major advantage of having four arms, but it appears that HWB, unlike SD who gets stripped away over time inside an expanded domain (meaning you'll get hit by the sure-hit even if you re-activate it right after), doesn't disappear and leave you unprotected until you choose to unclasp your hands. Of course, if your CT requires you to use your hands, you're kinda screwed plus HWB doesn't give you the domain buff for what we know, but it provides a more reliable defence against lethal sure-hit attacks

important note: It's been confirmed that any simple domain gives the same 20% buff that a domain expansion does.

Falling blossom emotion (FBE) is an application of curse energy manipulation not a barrier technique and it doesn't suck. The restrictions stated in the vid are not accurate.

As stated by Kusakabe it uses less curse energy than simple domain (SD) and it doesn't actually shatter under a domain expansion. The functionality for FBE is similar to new shadow style SD, but weaker, with similar or even easier restrictions. It may be weaker than SD, but FBE has its niche against an onslaught of simple sure hit effect (or physical attack with curse energy) and it's also more useful friendly compared to SD.

So here's my opinion on Simple Domain vs Falling Blossom Emotion. While simple domain is good at resisting attacks, its time is limited and you will likely spend quite a bit of energy trying to set it up and maintain the barrier. Falling Blossom Emotion is much less energy draining since it would be more like punching using your Cursed Energy, it isn't being spent that much and is better against simple attacks since it can't be torn apart.

TLDR: Simple Domain is better against more complex domains and for counter offensive abilities. However, if your name is not Gojo, it will be taxing to constantly use it while its being torn down. Falling Blossom emotion is better against more physical domains since if the domain attack is weak, like Dagon's, it can be neutralised.

Feel a need to mention, Open Barrier domains do not lack a barrier, the barrier is simply just not closed off, as lacking a barrier entirely would be wholly impossible, and would sort of remove the idea that it is a barrier technique if it was possible.. But the point of this is a binding vow that by allowing an escape route, it increases the power of the domain, which is very helpful for highly destructive techniques such as Shrine and Gravity Manipulation.

Simple Domains two chapters ago mentions it also has conditions to use if you aren't a master with it like Kusakabe. So like HWB and FBE they all suck unless you are a master with it or have an advantage like Sakuna having an extra pair of hands.

And on HWB it seems it doesn't get broken if you keep you hands together, but if you don't it can be broken easily.

FBE is good against Jujustsu skills that are simple in nature which eliminates half or more of the domains in the manga.

For my dnd nerd it’s like casting shield of faith on yourself
Raises you armor class making it impossible for lower attack rolls to hit you
But attacks with higher attack rolls that surpass ur AC will hit you at but due to the shield the dmg is mitigated also Shield of faith is a concentration spell so you need to pass a constitution saving throw to maintain concentration or lose concentration and your armor class effectively allowing u to take more damage from attack based domains.

15:50 Gojo CAN exclude people from his domain. The problem in Shibya was that the walls of his domain would've crushed the excluded people against the walls of the subway, killing them.

You missed one thing with domain expansions. Not every attack is a sure hit, just a certain type of attack. Like in Dagon’s it’s his fish. In Sukuna’s it’s his slashes. Like maybe all fire attacks in Jogo’s domain are sure hits but not the rock attacks or lava attacks. Hope this helps.

12:24 Its possible that kenjaku's domain isnt barrierless in the same way as sukuna's. I say this bc he could've projected onto the barrier he was already inside somewhat similar to how megumi used the gymnasium in his fight against reggie. I dont personally believe this, considering kenjaku is the 2nd best barrier user i think its reasonable to assume he just has an open domain. Okay ye i checked tengen directly says it is just like sukuna's

Hollow wicker basket is most likely better against domains due to your hands having to be clasped like you are doing a handsign in exchange for not being able to fight without bringing down the technique. On the other hand, however, Simple domain is better if you want to fight back within the domain in exchange for extremely inferior domain protection.

They explained why gojo couldn’t selectively trap the disaster curses, kenjaku himself said if he tried it, the outer barrier would crush all the civilians in the station against the walls of it and kill them, otherwise he is capable of doing so but because he was surrounded by civilians he couldn’t risk killing them in the process.

Forgot to mention maki's dad using falling blossom emotion with his sword to automatically repel attacks like new shadow style does. That's at least one useful thing about the technique
