I have seen "custom" trucks that are way better optioned than Lariat trucks.

The good old days when you could spend hours poring over the option sheet, and get EXACTLY what you wanted, 6-8 weeks later.

Gotta love all that metal dashboard

Back in the day, I used the magnets to stick or hold all my gas receipts when I was traveling, stuck them right to the dashboard next to the glove compartment door

My 88 is a Custom. Base 300 with 5 speed. Looks like you got a Grant steering wheel too. I got a wood one that I stained and sanded to match the fake wood dash pieces I got off a Lariat model.

I’m learning a lot about Ford trucks thanks to you. I appreciate it and am enjoying it.

I never thought of it that way, but this makes sense. My `87 F150 was a Custom, and the dealer had ordered it with cloth seats, chrome mirrors, argent wheels, and a couple other things.

Custom was a popular name for the low level trim from all US manufacturers, for cars and trucks from the 60s the 80s.

A base model back then was truly a base model. You could order a truck with no radio, no ac etc.. now of days all that comes standard rather you want it or not. you cant even get manual roll down windows anymore on f150's.

Early '70's Sport Custom was also available.

I wish I was alive bavk in the 70s to order a new truck. I'd get a 76 f150 Custom standard cab long bed 4x4 with a 390/C6, 3.50 traction loc, a/c, p/s, cruise control, all the woodgrain trim, sliding back glass, tinted glass all around, dual tanks, AM/FM radio, ford trim on the tailgate, trim on the sides all in a midnight blue metallic with blue interior.

Back in the 50's and 60's a custom was the step up from the base on dodges and fords

Yep, my 1980 started life as a Custom, and it had no a/c and no radio, but it did have Power Steering, the heavier GVWR, a sliding rear window, dual tanks, and two-tone paint.

My first vehicle was a '78 custom step side, short bed. Had a built 351 Cleveland in it. Frame-up restored in 1990. I flipped it and totaled it drag racing....

All 78 Customs were round headlights right.
