Exploring the Moon with NASA: My Journey as an Exploration Geologist!

Hey everyone! I'm Angela Garcia, an exploration geologist at NASA Johnson Space center, and in this video, I'm thrilled to share my role in shaping the future of lunar exploration.

What I Do: As part of the Artemis program, I get to weigh in on designing geology tools that will be used on the Moon's surface. It’s a fascinating process where I collaborate with engineers to create tools that will help astronauts make groundbreaking discoveries.

Why Training is Key: One of my key roles is to provide geology training for engineers, managers, and astronauts who will be exploring the Moon. It’s like preparing for a high-stakes dress rehearsal – we’re teaching them how to navigate, sample, and analyze lunar geology to achieve our science goals.

What We Learn: We conduct tests in various remote locations to simulate lunar conditions as closely as possible. From deserts with bare rocks to icy terrains in Iceland, each location helps us prepare for different lunar scenarios.
The Moon’s South Pole, our target for Artemis, is a new and exciting frontier. The samples we bring back will provide invaluable insights into the Moon's history and, by extension, the history of our solar system

My Inspiration: Join me as I dive into how growing up in Hawaii sparked my passion for geology, and how my journey from a lab assistant to working with NASA has been nothing short of amazing.
