Variable Cylinder Management System Information

preview_player
Показать описание
Honda's vehicles with V6 engines equipped with Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) are able to deactivate engine cylinders to improve fuel economy. These engines are equipped with technology to dampen and decrease the vibration of the engine when cylinders are deactivated. While these systems effectively decrease the amount of vibration transmitted to the passenger cabin, you may still notice a light vibration when the engine is running on 3 or 4 cylinders during light cruising.

VCM Muzzler II lives on my Accord V6. It turned an indecisive car that would thrash when accelerating, into a very smooth experience. It has more pickup, and it still gets 38-40mpg on the highway at 60-65. I don't know what Honda was thinking with this one... (that, and auto idle stop as well, drive me nuts)

Hello Honda. Just here to let you know I'll be disabling the VCM on my 2008 Honda Accord due to the constant fouled spark plugs I am getting and am out of your extended warranty on the problem. This is a known issue, and you should have a PERMANENT RECALL for a fix to allow us to disable the VCM on our cars if we choose.
Never again Honda... never again.

I don't care what Honda says or does but my opinion is the minimal gas saving is not worth the wear and tear on the motor mounts alone. The vcm causes vibration that I can feel very very easily and I can say when it kicks on and off literally the second it happens. The vcm should be something that we the consumer should have an option to shut off for free but instead they leave it locked on and the only options are a vcm muzzle that tricks the car into thinking it's running 10° colder so the VCM doesn't kick on or a ktuner that disables the VCM within the ECU. I highly doubt that the gas savings would be more than the cost of the motor mounts it destroys along the way. And who's to say it's not causing other damages that aren't quite as evident. It makes me furious that they leave it like this people buy a v6 because they want a V6 they don't want a dumbed down four banger. I specifically bought a 2017 Accord to get a v6 I don't want one of the new 4-cylinder turbos. I don't think they're going to last quite as long as the naturally aspirated v6s. I guess time will tell

VCM is how I learned to doubt Honda engineering.
Honda's handling of the clean up is how I learned to doubt Honda as a company.

"Some customers may be more sensitive to the noise and vibrations generated..." that is hilarious. I guess others don't mind spending $30k+ on a flawed vehicle design.

I'm so glad I've disabled VCM on my Odysseys. VCM cuts off 2 or 3 cylinders and a very distinct droning echos in the cabine. Deactivated cylinders can get oil blowing by the piston rings, damaging the rings, burning oil, & fouling the plugs. And the active motor mounts are expensive, and go bad quickly because they have to correct an unbalanced engine.
One quick install of a vcm disabler and all my problems went away.

VCM SUCKS.

The vibration and low grumbling is totally annoying and only started about 6-8 months after purchase. If this were the case during the test drive, I would have NEVER bought the car. My service dealer says this is normal for the car and Honda US is doing NOTHING about it. Among my immediate family, we have owned 8 Hondas. This will be my last.

Honda, please stop selling VCM engines. That feature seems to last about 150-200k km, then starts to cost more money in repairs than it ever saves. Without VCM, these are great engines that are good for 400, 000 km.

I've owned Hondas for as long as I can remember - I currently own the Pilot and thanks to Honda's VCM system - this is the last Honda I will even buy ( at least until then eliminate that useless VCM system or include an 'ON/OFF' switch.
I owned the first Generation Pilot (without VCM) and I got the same MPG as my current 2009 with the VCM.

I truly hate this technology on my 2008 Accord. As the narration mentioned, there are a lot of vibrations which become evident as the car ages. Then, there is the software which struggles to decide what mode/transmission gear to be in. For example, punch the throttle on the highway and the car (1) increase the rpm (2) goes from 3 cyl. to 4 cyl. (3) goes from from 4 cyl. to 6 cyl. (4) only then decides to down shift. All of this yields a very unrefined experience! Add to that all the other problems with my Accord, and I can't say will back to Honda for a long time!

People don’t listen, and will never understand VCM issues until they get one and cry.

That’s why Pilots sell so well
Because people do not listen

People just don’t listen
Chevrolet AFM is equivalently garbage.

2014 Acura RDX V6 with zero issues! Incredibly smooth and supremely efficient! I consistently get 30mpg or better on the highway. No vibrations and I only ever felt the car switch from 4 to 6 cylinders once in 6 years.

Hello, Thank you for all the videos you post and for your efforts.
However, I'm going to ask you a question that has nothing to do with the VCM topic, I'd like to ask you if you could tell me if the 2009 Honda Fit GE8 CVT automatic transmission contains a wet start clutch .
Thanks for your help

Question what happened is the variable cylinder Management system stuck on

I don’t notice the vibration when the engine is switching between cylinder modes. The one thing I do notice is how engine response is effected with last generation of this tech (2008-2012 Honda Accord V6 vs 2009-2014 Acura TL).
