Most are hydraulic with a pressure reservoir so they can break once even when the pump is dead

early large aircraft had comically large wheels, this is one of the ways they could run multiple smaller wheels in modern large aircraft.

The pistons are hydraulic! Be careful with Skydrol. There are many places it shouldn't end up.

Lots of info missing in the video. This one, for example: the aircraft brakes work by transforming the kinetic energy of the airplane into the heat. During the hard braking, the carbon stacks can heat up to 450 °C (300 °C for nominal braking conditions), and then slowly cool off when the plane has slowed down to taxiing speed.

I think someday someone will redesign this system with an electric motor to spin up the wheels to save the tires from all the skiding. Then, with the same motors, you can utilize regenerative braking technology to slow the plane, saving the energy for spin up later. Maybe if it's really necessary, you can also incorporate some braking plates just in case, but maybe not.
