The actual storm surge is what’s to be worried about. Back when Katrina hit years ago it was a cat 5 then died down to a 3 before landfall but brought the massive surge of a cat 5 with it.

I lived in Pasco for quite a few years and sat through a few cat5 hurricanes and never had anything worse than a few flooded roads. It's wild how sometimes these things are just so much worse than others.
