it's such a gem of a moment when the subway first starts and Mark is the only one who wasn't already sitting down and he literally falls and crashes into a seat.

I remember being a teen seeing this and dreaming of moving to New York. And now I've lived here for five years and I'm fantasizing about moving out....just like this song.

It's weird how you become a cliche without realizing it

I adore the choreography when Angel gets up, and Collins' low notes resonate in my soul

I really like how Roger is here, because in the musical version he wasn't. But even here, you can tell how defeated he is, only joining in a few forced times. This is his first time out of the house in a while, and they just came back from the life support meeting. In the musical, Roger leaves to go directly to Maureen's show after he rejects Mimi, and he doesn't go to the life support meeting. I like both versions but in the movie it was a nice touch!

I love how when Angel and Collins start their synchronized dancing Collins keeps looking behind him to make sure Angel is okay :) i also love the acro tricks that Collins does :) it helps that Jesse L Martin is super good looking :) it's amazing how many actors/actresses is in this that i didn't even know could sing :) xxx

I like Jesse L. Martin's singing voice. his reprise of I'll Cover you is just wow. I know others have played Collins on stage and did it really good. I just really like watching Jesse L. Martin 's Collins, really good singing voice I think. Has he been in other musicals besides Rent?

I just watched this movie for the first time recently, and had never seen the musical before. I had no idea that Jesse L. Martin (who I know as "Lenny's partner on Law and Order") had such a gorgeous voice AND originated the role of Tom Collins on Broadway!

This is my favorite song in RENT, I think. Whenever this comes up when we're playing music, my wife tells me I need to sing it for her

Especially in 2020, we would always laugh at the "times are shitty, but I'm pretty sure they can't get worse" and it would cheer us up and make us think about happier things

Wouldn’t it be great to live in Santa Fe, were it’s clean and green and pretty,
and they went and made a city out of clay...
Why the minute that you get there folks will walk right up and say, welcome home son
Welcome home to Santa Fe!

I’m newsies trash what can I say

What I love about this version of Santa Fe:

- the scene opening where the station noise and a street performer's sax can be heard. Adds to the grittiness and realism of the scene.
- Collins' infectious and playful energy throughout. You can tell Jesse had a ball with this number.
- 1:09 Nice!
- the subway setting and interaction with the background train riders
- Jesse and Wilson's masterful pole work
- 2:11 Gain, gain, gain!
- the inclusion of Roger into this number (in which he is absent in the actual musical)
- the flawless vocals (which of course comes from editing in flawless studio vocals)
- the final seconds after "Yeah...", where they are all in wistful hopeful bliss...on a New York subway line

I love how reluctant Roger is to say "gain". He's like: whatever

Jesse L. Martin pole dancing in the subway is Everything! Love this song and Jesse's portrayal. One of my all time frustrations is that Law and Order never did a musical episode when both Jesse and Jerry Orbach were on it.
