How to Move Around in Blender: Viewport Navigation

Learn how to move around your scene within Blender (Viewport Navigation). This will change your view but will not move objects around. Details below...

Rotate
Mouse: Middle mouse drag
Trackpad: Move with two fingers

Pan
Mouse: Shift + middle mouse drag
Trackpad: Shift + move with two fingers

Zoom
Mouse: Roll mouse scroll wheel up and down
Trackpad: Pinch or expand with two fingers

For those who don't have a Middle Mouse Button or can't press it or just have a trackpad, follow this:

- Open Blender go to Edit at the top left then >Preferences>Input then Under Mouse, select "Emulate 3-button mouse".
- After that you should be able to just press the alt key to act as your the middle button and everything in this video works the same way.

I pressed "shift c" to try and center my camera and now the middle mouse makes my camera move weird. Instead of rotating around the selected object like in this video, my pov just spins around when i try to move with the middle mouse (meaning I can't view an object from different angles). Trying to pan across is also really slow, and it wont let me zoom in too close either.

Any idea what's going on? Did I fat finger a keybind or something? All my keybinds are set to default, btw.

Thanks for this video, I wanted to ask though, is there a better way of moving forward/backward? After sometime of zooming in, you slow down to a stop and its REALLY frustrating

Hint :
to make your object not moving while navigation. go to EDIT / PREFERENCES / NAVIGATION - then active the [ orbit Around Selection ]. save it.

How do you move the cube across the screen without changing the perspective? Shift-Middle button to pan changes the perspective. For example you want to add something on top of the cube so you need to move it down a bit, without changing the perspective. Hope you understand my question :) Thank you.

This is the first video on google that shows up for "how to pan the view in blender using the trackpad". Not only does the video not even mention a trackpad (I realize this isn't your problem), but as far as I know my trackpad doesn't have a middle mouse button. The annoying thing is I'm able to do all other camera motions without issue.
