This is why most people's homes are not immaculately clean 100% of the time. Most people's homes have some degree of keeping things clean takes work and people allow themselves that degree of disorganization. The question is the degree. I personally would not be comfortable with rotting food and other trash because of the smell, but i'm totally fine with piles of dirty laundry and baskets of clean clothes that haven't been folded and put away, or unread mail and papers.

What's even the point of letting food rot? You have to throw it out eventually, so just throw it out immediately. It's easier to wash up, it doesn't attract bugs, it doesn't smell, and it's paltry effort. It just doesn't add up.
