I am 76 and am starting to learn the alto recorder that I lat played at school. Your video very easy to follow. Your positivity particularly encouraging rather than the dire tone of some tutors. Thanks. I will be following on after this first lesson. It feels like I can do this.

Omaygash! This is such a great timing! I just impulsively bought a 2nd hand Alto recorders a few hours ago! Without knowing anything about the instrument.

Thank you!!

Thanks for your clear & easy to follow introduction including how best to hold the alto, posture & breathing plus the notation, this will be very helpful & was just the guide I was looking for. Thanks again & have a great day!

Thank you Sarah! With your help I just did my first lesson on my new Yamaha YRA-312B III. (Your other videos helped me choose this recorder and the Sweet Pipes Alto method book!) I’m thrilled with the tone! 😊

Bought the alto recorder (my first ever recorder) a month ago and haven't actually taken the time to learn the notes haha, just been using a yt vid to learn the pirates of the caribbean theme instead. When I saw you had posted this I clicked very fast!

I've been wanting to take alto recorder lessons. I completely forgot about YouTube university! Thank you!
I took some lessons with the American Recorder association but that was over a year ago now.

My school had a recorder marching band when I was little, we were good enough that we stood in for the army playing the national anthem at a remembrance event once. Anyway, we had drums and soprano recorders mostly, plus five tenors. Then one day I found a treble recorder while rummaging through my sister's stuff, there was a booklet with it so I taught myself the fingering and turned up with it to practice one day. I still love the treble recorder's tone, it's my favourite of them all.

I’ve had the Mollenhauer pearwood alto for several years and it still gives me goosebumps
the tone of baroque recorders
Thank you Sarah for presenting it

For people that are already experienced on soprano/other wind instruments in C, do you have any tips on how to practice getting the knack of re-learning all the finger positions? I have a variety of recorders that I love playing, and I play flute and sax as well, but the fingering in F is really tripping me up and making playing F recorders really frustrating! I really want to do it properly but so far I've been resorting to transposing the music instead of re-learning the notes lmao

Fun! Thank you 😄
I've played a few instruments among which soprano recorder, but alto and baroque fingering are new to me. Because I tend to enjoy lower sounds more (always wanted to move on to viola from violin too!), I had purchased a plastic aulos alto a while ago but hadn't wrapped my head around the notes in F. I'm taking this as my cue to figure it out ❤

We've had them around the house since the 1970's. This is going to sound strange, but I saw them playing recorders on Last of the Summer Wine. They, four of the actors, were playing Green Sleeves to be exact and it shoulder great.

I bought an alto recorder years ago based upon your videos but never got around to playing. Looks like I have a reason to dust it off again! 😊
