I'm a beginner. My late husband had COPD and the recorder was recommended to help him breathe better. As a memorial to him and to help my own breathing, I decided to start playing the recorder. Your videos are comprehensive and entertaining. Thank you

I never would have imagined I could unironically say, "I came here for Eb. I stayed for the 31 other notes."

Like many of us, I too learned the basics of the recorder when I was a kid and then let it go for no particular reason. Now, just for fun in my late 30's learning piano, recorder and drum. Thank you so much, Sarah. your explanations are perfect and your vibe just makes the whole practice lots of fun!

So glad I found your early YouTube videos on how to play a recorder. You are such an inspiration and so very talented in all the recorders you have learned to play through your young years. I am 69 years old and just purchased a Yamaha Soprano Recorder Baroque (Ecodear) YRS-402B, after watching your video, choosing a PLASTIC recorder! What a challenge it has been but enjoyable at the same time. I plan to use the soprano recorder for worshiping at home. A lot of your videos are very informative and way over my head but I thank you for encouraging those of us who have never played before. GOD bless you Sarah and your family.

Who's here in middle of quarantine and just found recorder at home? 😆

I admit I'm fascinated by things like recorders and ocarinas that can play chromatically with NO moving parts. I love simple technology that can do surprisingly complex things.

I used to play the flute about 10 years ago and haven't really kept up with music since. It's something I've been wanting to do for a while but couldn't justify spending all the money on one right off the bat. Then I found your channel and even though the recorder is not the same as the flute it's the perfect instrument to get back into music from the foundations up. Thank you so much for all these videos! This one and the one with method book recommendations were invaluable to me, and I can't wait to try some of these more advanced videos!

Low E on the Alto!!!! I didn't know I could do that. This was amazingly eye opening. Seems like a small thing, but truly- that extra low note is pure magic!! Thank you.

I’m studying for a alto song that my music teacher asked me to do, and I barely know the notes, but watching this video gave me the “note knowledge” I need, thank you so much!!!

Hello Sarah, thank you for your inspiring videos ! I’m starting the alto recorder after 30 years of saxophone alto. I wanted to play ancien music . I’ve followed musicology studies in university so it makes me feel like playing Bach and the other ones ! For the moment I just have a Yamaha which is not totally in tune but I save money to buy a good one ! I’m following the Jean-Claude veilhan method who wrote specifically for Baroque’s music ! I wish you a lot of joy and luck in your job and thanks again for the videos ! Aurélie

After a couple of days of pure high note practice I managed to get through all the soprano and Alto notes on my plastic recorders! Thank you so much for this video! I find myself referencing it quite frequently

You are a great flute recorder teacher, Miss Jeffrey. Back when I was a kid, I learn how to play the flute recorder with my music teacher, Miss Pantoja in Elementary School. Now in today's world, I am learning how to play the flute and still covering it on YouTube. Thanks, Miss Jeffrey, also known as #teamrecorder. Sincerely yours, - Osagie Guobadia.

Dear Sarah, tahnk you for all you enthousiastic video's. A week ago my granddaughter of six years old came over from Austria to us in Holland and she brought her recorder with her. She had had her first lessons. We both played 'Jingle bells', she with her recorder and I on keyboard.
The last time I played the recorder I was just about 7-8 years old. Now I am 71!
Guess what, I played again, my granddaughter and I, both with a recorder. From now on I start again with playing 'de blokfluit!. Ia am a restarter.
And I love your visedo's on YouTube. Thank you very much!!

Guys, for the soprano fingering of D#/Eb in the second octave, I copy pasted the wrong text! (this was a very, very long video to edit and my brain evidently had a momentary holiday).
The correct fingering is 23456. In the video my fingers, the notes on the stave and sound are all correct, the text is just wrong. Thanks to those who pointed this out!

'Actually' I come from the ocarina and just wanted to expand my repertoire... No clue why I bought an alto recorder after getting hooked here!
Sarah - you did a brilliant job with your channel!

Thank you so much - and Greetings from Germany!

I just wish that when I was a kid someone had told me that the recorder was a real instrument with lots of wonderful music, and not just a stepping stone to 'proper' ones such as the clarinet or even the violin - I would never have stopped playing the tenor recorder. But I am feeling slightly freaked out by some of those high notes on the descant!
