Good luck with the new channel.

Interesting you weren’t 100% with the pacing. I had a day off and read the hardback in one sitting. Like I could not stop, and maybe that’s why I found the pacing perfect.

I loved all other aspects of the book being a history buff, and an especial fan of the Age of Sail.

I found the real life element intriguing and googled a lot about it afterwards. Like yourself I was most intrigued by the moral dilemmas faced by every man.

One last point I’d respond to you about was the ‘ok I get it, it’s bad’ you mentioned. To me, that only showed how ‘business as usual’ misery became, and that in itself was harrowing.

Anyway, loved the book!

I’m reading the Wager right now and about midway into the story. I just had to put it down to go to sleep! I usually don’t read seafaring story but I’ve just finished his ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’- loved the story and the fact that it’s a true story. I live in Oklahoma and didn’t know about the murders of many Osage people during this oil rush. So, when I saw Grann had another true story book, I had to get it. Love that Grann used a lot of nautical terms throughout the narrative. The story is very descriptive and well paced. And I’ll do more reading about this historical event.

My cousin is a Commander in the Royal Navy. I trained Royal Marines and Sailors at HMNB Portsmouth. The place is just oozing history. Both recent and personal to myself (my friend lost his arm in Bosnia and I assisted in his first aid. He was Casevaced to Gosport. My brother was his assigned Navy medic)

I couldn’t put the book down as most of the places in England I know well.
