If you have an appropriate tank size usually they don't crash the tank if they die, though you should add some carbon to be safe

When I was a kid, my dad had a small saltwater tank with two clownfish, a shrimp, and one other fish I can’t remember right now. We introduced a box fish, and he gave everything in the tank ich. He never showed signs of it though. Everything but him died. We returned him and got a freshwater tank😅

At my local aquarium shop one of these guys kept on poking his head out of the water when I walked by! He was so cute!

I caught a tiny grape-sized boxfish (or maybe a cowfish?) while seining in the Indian River Lagoon as a little kid! It was so cool. I thought it was an unripe seagrape until I saw his little red eyes staring back at me. God I miss living by the sea.

I think he would be cute in a solo tank with some inexpensive fauna/flora you won't miss if they die.

He's cute but kissing gouramis are cuter, especially when they kiss your finger and each other.

Not 100% true. I had a bigger one in my display tank. He must have been dead for about a day or two. Watch out for heavy flow in your tank they are very crappy swimmers. Mine got lodged in between rocks and eneded up dying. Never released toxins tho . I think that only happens if they get attacked or if they get eaten.

This fish destroyed thousands of pounds of beautiful fish in my tank when it became ill. I quit keeping marine fish after this.
