Inslee announces Washington state reopening date, updated mask guidance

All counties in Washington state will be in Phase 3 starting Tuesday, and the state is on track to fully reopen by June 30.

Gov. Jay Inslee announced the changes during a news conference Thursday saying a decline in COVID-19 activity puts Washington in position to reopen.

Inslee said a full reopening could happen before June 30 if at least 70% of people over 16 have started the COVID-19 vaccination process before then. However, Inslee’s office said current vaccine trends indicate Washington won’t reach that threshold until late June.

He is not only terrible at science he is terrible at math. The last census showed 7.21 million washingtonians. He just said that six million have already been vaccinated. That is 84.5%!!!! That's HIGHER than the 70% that he's looking for. WTF?

The vaccine isn't nearly as effective against certain variant strains. We don't have enough data on ones like the double mutant strain, people are due for boosters (most will come due in Nov), and we haven't even vaccinated *half* of the state muchless the country. I'm vaccinated but will keep the mask on for awhile, thanks.

I am so glad to see that Washington has moved up 10 spaces to be in the top tier. It was always inexplicable to me that we were doing so poorly. We are now up where we belong. Yay!

I really dislike, maybe even resent, the "ticket to freedom" idea. Forcing people to wear masks if they choose not to have the vaccinations is tyranny. There are scientific considerations on both sides!

All I know is if my job stated if fully vaccinated I can work without a mask, I will gladly show them my vaccine card.
