Claire wanted to break free.

What I love is that they don't TELL us who the characters are. They show us. By showing the parents (or in Bender's case, the lack thereof) they perfectly set up each character's personality perfectly: all in the first could of minutes.

the car scene with alison made me kinda sad, she leaned over to say something or get some nice words, after sitting in the backrow despite the fact that the front seat was vacant, but she got nothing

In an earlier version of the script Bender was going to be dropped off by his abusive father, only to get caught up into an argument. They later changed it to instead him just walking there and almost getting hit by that car

Love the shots of the empty school at 7 in the morning on a gloomy, probably frigid Saturday. Every high-schooler would love nothing more than to be deep asleep at that time, yet these five have to endure an all-day, extremely boring detention with cranky Richard Vernon. It does bring back memories of my high school years, although I don't recall ever having to endure a detention of that length.

Thoughts on opening shots:
1. The locker at 2:32 has to be Brian's. That is the flare gun mess with the destroyed elephant.
2. Didn't notice originally that in the Man of the Year shots, the guy in the center is Carl, who is the janitor of the school now. Wonder if he had Vernon as a teacher and was he a good student?
3. Wonder who the other pictures are of the "Man of the Year"?
4. Notice the guidance counselor's name is R. Hashimoto? That's one of the crew.
5. In the prom queen shot, I'm not sure if this is cut off, but is Claire's name supposed to be there?
