Watching this scene you can see why Claire could be seen as the weakest link in this club. Compared to the others, she has the easiest life. Don't get me wrong I'm not downplaying her situation but it was nothing compared to the others. Her parents used her but at least they acknowledged her existence. Brian and Andrew had parents who rode on them constantly, demeaning them if they acted differently. Bender's emotionally and physically abused him. Allison's ignore her. All Claire has to deal with is pressure from others, which Brian destroys in the scene after this.

This might be the reason why Bender is hardest on her, she has nothing to complain about compared to the others. The only one he didn't mock was Allison, since they could understand each other, and he left Brian alone once learning his situation.

1:18 Brian feels it when bender sticks up for him saying "you know how shitty that is to do to someone"

"Don't you EVER talk about my friends! You don't know any of my friends! You don't look at any of my friends! And you certainly wouldn't condescend to speak to any of my friends!"

Makes me wonder what kind of friends Bender even had. I imagine they're vastly different from each other which can be why Bender knows how to read people.

this part gets me so bad because this is where you can see that all of them struggle in their different ways. but i like this part because when brian starts crying, you can see that bender starts to look concerned or worried, and i think that's a really touching part because after all the mocking he's done and all the "bad" things he's done, you could still see that he's got a really kind heart

To be fair, Claire does have a point about what would happen on Monday.

Brian: "I just want to tell each of you that I wouldn't do that. I wouldn't, and I will not. Because I think that's real shitty."

Claire: "Your friends wouldn't mind because they look up to us."

Damn

"I don't think my friends would mind"

Reason why Allison is my favorite character (besides Bener). At least I can have hope that she and Brian would still be friends, maybe even Bener?

Claire is correct here. People in high school are very cautious about who they choose to be friends with. A lot of them are pompous and won't associate with anyone who they believe they are better than.

I don't need a sequel to know what happens on Monday when I've already experienced it for myself.

Bender's learned behaviors from his father come out in this scene, ripping into Claire in such a pointed manner, being able to string the jabs like in his earlier imitation of his home life.

He also was hurt by her judgemental way of lifestyle and decided to attack those very things involved with it, judging her right back.

The ONLY part of this movie that is believable. Claire's dialogue is 100% accurate.

My thoughts on Monday is that Allison and Brian stay close friends, Bender associates with them, and Andrew is friendly with them in addition to dating Allison. The only one who I think really returns to the status quo is Claire. Brian Allison and Bender don't really care all that much about the social bullshit. While Bender might not be buddy buddy with them, I think he'd still be friendly. Andy is where I think it gets interesting. In this afternoon he's really connected with Allison and is paralleled exceptionally with Brian. I think with these two things tying him to the others, he'd stick with them. Claire is the outlier. She's got the smallest connection to the freaks of the group and has less tying her to them. I think she will go back to the status quo

What Claire said is true. And people calling her conceited, miss what she means. And I was not popular in high school, so not trying to defend those that are like Claire. She's not saying she AGREES with this, but is speaking reality.

High school is all about cliques and clinging with your own. Everyone feels social anxiety at that age. It takes a lot GUTS, to break that mold, and not care what others think. That's all teenagers care about at that age, is fitting in... No one likes being singled out, picked on, made fun of, etc... Whether you're popular, or not.

She's not saying its okay, or she agrees at all. She doesn't in fact. She's saying befriending a Brian, or Allison, would include a lot ridicule, being made fun of, and being shamed by her clique. And she has feelings, just like any teenager does at that age.

Notice, Bender never refutes it too, saying he wouldn't do it. He just said its shitty, never said he wouldn't do it. He only attacks Claire for it, no one else, not Andrew, blows up at her, and only her, because he feels like Claire is rejecting him.

Bender really digs Claire, and is too stubborn, scared, and prideful to ever admit it. But this really cuts HIM, personally. And that's why he blows up at her. And becomes very hostile towards her. He's actually hurt.

Why Brian and Allison don't understand it, its because they'd have nothing to lose. They don't risk being shamed, embarrassed, or humiliated for it. She does. Bender does, with his clique.

Andrew reluctantly, but shamefully agrees. Bender just uses this as justification to lash out at Claire (and unfairly mind you).

It's easy to tell people at that age, 'well then they're not real friends', of course they're not, and that's the point. But teenagers main goal in high school is to just fit in. A lot of times kids don't really agree with most of what they do at that age, but go along, because they just want to fit in.

High school isn't exactly fun for any of these five, they all share anxiety over it in different ways.

2:22 I don’t have any friends ... Allison is the key to the whole story .

The strange thing about this scene is that everyone is right at some point. Whether you agree with them or not, it's a whole different thing. I think that it would be shitty of Claire to ignore everyone on Monday, but I get what she's saying, the same with Bender and Brian.

I really think Brian and Allison stayed friends, maybe not close friends but friends none the less. I'd really like to think Brian and Bender would great each other in the hall, maybe Brian gave Bender a place to stay and Bender helped Brian in shop. Not exactly friends but understanding that each is human

I would pray that hollywood would make a movie this year based on all these characters joined together because they had to serve on Jury duty

2:03

"Just bury your head in the sand and wait for your fucking prom!"

Loved that line, Bender is my favourite and he really touched a nerve there.

This is the best scene of the whole film. Really sums up the whole movie. However, I think everything Claire said was right. Not that she's better than anyone - but it's how the various groups of kids in high school interact within their social structure. They'll all be strangers again. That's why I don't see the two couples going much further beyond this day.
