Algorithms and data structures were the entire reason for my being interested in computer science and eventually pursuing a career as a developer. I read CLRS and savour every part of it, including the mathematical proofs.

I used to enjoy coding as a kid, went onto study Info Sys and found I enjoyed data... Ended up in BI/DW/DBA area, but usually always with some coding... I am now purely Prod DBA and I am really missing the intellectual stimulation of problem solving in coding, but then I remember all the frustration :)

the funnest part of my job is hands down getting a "Script" that is 300 lines... and breaking it down, speeding it up, and standardizing. dont know why, new to programming in generally but i love perfecting script and i get tooo into it

Can you show your skills of drum set behind you in any intro or part of your video!

Totally agree with your comments on DS&A for fun, and the "leetcode grinding" attitude being baffling.

Love everything about this video, including the music! If you're able to post the name of this track it would be much appreciated

401k is capped at 19, 500/yr in contribution. You can't put $45k/yr into it. You need to find another vehicle. Also 401k won't help you achieve FIRE. You can't access that money until youre in your 60s.

Ouch.

@tutoriaLinux
Nice to hear someone else talk about Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead. It's a whole lot of fun and hits that weird niche of being between a brutalist RPG and a creative game like Minecraft. How's the game turning out for you?

What do you think of moving to some cheaper country and freelancing in tech? I was living in Spain on $2000 quite nicely, doing some web admin stuff for company in US...my apartment was $500 and I had a car

I have about one year experience in the tech world. I believe tech can be brilliant, but it could also be extremely stifling. There are many factors involved.

Why would people hit unlike when it's only by choice, voluntarily that you are watching this. Someone out there creating value and people dislike that. 😕

I like your videos Dave! I found you through the "Linux for Sysadmins" series you did a while back, as I've been meaning to learn more about Linux for yeeears... (I've been a "hardcore Windows admin" and wanted to expand my expertise and knowledge.) - I knew the basics, like, I'm not retarded and could install and get running most distro:s I'd tried and the Ubuntu-based video series you made was really easy to follow... so thanks for that... it gave me a little more "meat on my bones" as far as more in-depth skills like troubleshooting, etc go... I also just started reading the article you mention in the links to this here video "Why did you leave the Tech industry?" - man, that thing is a BEAST, so many comments.. haha... I've been thinking about becoming a teacher also, as I'm a little tired of SysOp:ing... either that or I might try my hand at being a Tech-Co Project Manager for a bit... see if managing a team/group of people and dealing with project deadlines rather than the other type of "death" (oh no! some shit hit the fan and now I'm the only one who can fix it?) type deadlines... aaanyway... just my two bits. Thanks for your videos! =)
