Walbro 525lph Hellcat Pump upgrade for the Turbo S10

Short overview of the upgrade from the Walbro 255lph pump to the 525lph pump. Since we knew the Turbo was going to need more pump I chose the Hellcat in tank pump, w/Hotwire kit and -6 feed and return for now.

That does look like a pretty easy swap. I'm looking forward to seeing that first burnout on boost.💪

On the wire. It’s important to run a good wire from the front to the back. The longer run of wire you have the more current and voltage drop you will have. Think about how thin the wire is on a fuse....but it’s short and the current passes through it just fine. That short wire is fine, and if you stripped it back you’d notice it’s thicker strands and a pretty heavy duty wire for its size.

Hoses are like tires, sometimes it sits on the shelf a good while before it is sold/used. That looks like age cracking (dry rot of the rubber covering).

Yeah I can see your concern with the hose looking so worn. It's almost like it's having some sort of negative reaction to the fuel. Not a bad idea to replace it before it gets any worse

My thought on that dirty sock would be the fuel line deteriorating and being fed back through the return line. I was surprised to find after only a couple months the color of my clutch fluid because of a cheap hose up to the reservoir. Did you drill out your turbo oil feed restriction hole? If so, what size? I didn't shim my oil pump so think I might go a little bigger than yours even though its a similar size journal bearing turbo.

Does your truck have a charcoal fuel canister ?, might be a source for fuel sock contamination

10% ethanol fuel was very bad for fuel system parts. Even if auto parts were built for it, they would have lasted longer without 10% ethanol. Many old Nissan engines had an unusual fuel injector design, and E10 made a bad problem worse. I'm not sure what California had in their gasoline, but the Nissan 300ZXTT was made until 1996 and had injector problems. It was another reason why those cars cost a fortune to repair.

Run Earl's ultra pro fuel line. Plugged up sock filter is probably broken down rubber from the cheaper rubber hoses.

Just go to PTFE lined hose. Avoid Cheeto eBay hose, get quality brand hose like Aeroquip, Fragola, Earls etc.

So jw… how is it a “hellcat” pump? It’s just a walbro pump…

It’s such a short run of wire that the amp draw to the pump won’t impact integrity of the wire
