Japan have increased their squad depth now. They can play Miyaura and Nishida at the same time. Kai and Otsuka are on the rise. Ogawa can share playtime with Yamamoto. Kentaro can also fill in for Yamauchi/Onodera. Even without Ishikawa and Ran, they have run through their matches so far.

i’ve known this for quite a long time but yuji is really one of nippon’s teamwork foundation, , , he energizes his teammates, checks, motivates and encourages them 🥺 so cute how he called ogawa when the latter was walking away from their huddle 😆

Akihiro might be their captain but Yuji is their energizer. Being a senior national team player despite being young himself, he probably decided to share some of leader responsibility. I love seeing him encouraging other team members during the match. I believe he can be a good captain one day.
