Hijab Campus Face-Off: All Eyes On Karnataka High Court Today
Показать описание
The Karnataka High Court is scheduled to resume Day 7 proceedings in the hijab row case today. The high court will hear the government's arguments in the ongoing hijab controversy. On Friday, February 18, Advocate General Prabhuling Navadgi informed the high court that the College Development Committee (CDC) has been empowered to decide on the dress code in educational institutions. He said that the government will not interfere in this matter.
Meanwhile, former Actor Zaira Wasim has condemned the Hijab ban and said 'Hijab is not the choice but an obligation in Islam'. Karnataka Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah on Sunday attacked the Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai-led state administration and termed their order on uniform code, "a conspiracy to obstruct Muslim girls from getting an education."
“The [Karnataka] government could have solved this [hijab row] problem. If students can wear a turban, why can't students wear a hijab? Girls have been wearing them for a long time, there was no breach of peace then. Govt asking people to maintain peace is just drama," he said.
