How to Teach Writing to ESL Beginners: Ep. 10

In this week's video I show you how to teach writing to ESL beginners by using various types of paragraph frames for different contexts where ELLs are asked to come up with academic vocabulary and phrases. Paragraph frames provide ample scaffolding for ELLs as they navigate through the various types of academic vocabulary and phrases necessary in writing a well though out paragraph. Different types of frames are shown throughout the video.

I see that the rigor has definitely risen for paragraph frames. (winky face) The school I teach at does not offer separate learning environments for these students unless they have an IEP. In your professional opinion do you think these can always be used as accomodations for students in a general ed classroom? How can they be used for an in class assignment that requires them to include information from the text or even in open ended responses in reading and math on a test?
