I've lived through all ages of gaming and the things that Nintendo, Sega and eventually Sony did right was, #1 Quality Control of what was published on each platform and #2: Limit the number of title each publisher/developer could release each year. Nowadays it's a free-for-all!

1:50 $20 in 1980s would be $75 in 2024. So prices have pretty much stayed the same for that matter.

Unfortunately so many people don't even feel it or pretend not feeling it.

So many people are just gambling that the game can sell itself that you don't need to tell anyone and just drop it and it being good will be guaranteed success. But it won't work. Those things happen very rarely and are an exception because they did something unprecedented or are a lot better.

For me it has been an issue for over a decade, because I primarily play western RPGs. And the amount and quality of those coming out has been dismal.

You get Baldur’s Gate, Sea of Stars, Chained Echoes, and that’s about it for me. Solasta and Pathfinder were just alright.

The only continent producing RPGs is Asia, and Asian RPGs are utterly stagnant, especially from storytelling and character writing perspective.

JRPGs heavily recycle the same character archetypes, voices, and overarching main stories it’s just nauseating. Half their games have borderline lolita character designs with heavily infantilized men and women, it’s just gross.

Maybe one day the western market will take more after BG3, Witcher, and Sea of Stars as products to be released more often than every 5-7 years.

I’m sick of looter arpgs, looter online multiplayer shooters, and other similar garbage.

And most of what indies put out are either platformers or card deck or visual novel games.

Also he audio memory and the processing was terrible so that's why 80s games were that fast to make. You wouldn't even make a decent flsh game today with such bad quality.

There's so many great games being made right now, but very rare it's the traditional AAA-studios. Either either new AAA studio, AA-sized teams and occasional indie dev. Example I think games like Metaphor: ReFantazio or Star Ocean Second Story R... that's not AAA-game studios, that's more AA-studios and it's so freaking great.

Jonathan Blow's the absolute 🐐 of indie video games. He also has some of the most based takes on modern software development.

According to Blow every industry ever sucks so I'm not exactly gonna take this as gospel. Dude is just perpetually negative and grumpy, must be his generation or something. Sorry you re-released game didn't sell gangbusters but the game industry is alive and well, its nowhere near a crash, what are you on about?
