Dunno why everyone was so mad at the bukkit guy, he was totally in the right for deleting his code. To think that he unknowingly was working for Mojang and was being paid nothing for it is crazy, even if he wanted to contribute because he was passionate about it.

Mojang when servers literally make slot machines for kids: I sleep
Mojang when someone makes optional mods: THIS IS AN AVENGERS LEVEL THREAT
if mojang wants ANY moral high ground to stand on they need to permaban any server with gambling mechanics on it or lootboxes with paid keys first.

Jenny mod being dmca'd is so funny, probably that bought more attention to it than leaving it be

that Bukkit story is insane. Good on that guy for taking his revenge though.

Bukkit learned the hard way about business ethics.
13:25 "Kinda sad that someone is trying to ruin everythin for everyone"
Bro was putting his life work into something to his understanding that he had an ownership of just to find out that his buddies sold the project to a billion dollar company 2 years prior behind their back. Of course he's going to sue the shit out of them and claim all of his code. He wasn't paid for it at all and isn't going to let some shmuck in a cubicle take it from him for free.
Ergo Bukkit dies. Rightfully so. Not because of the claim from Bro but because of Mojang's shady backrooms deal.

Ok but the twist with Bukkit is genuinely evil. They used their fans' work without compensation--fans who thought they were doing work for their community with their community--and only revealed that when one of the previous Bukkit devs tried to shut the whole thing down. If that never happened, then they'd probably still be doing this. That one guy who DMCA'd them was a goddamn hero.

Cracking down on the Jenny mod, a mod that you have to actually seek for and even then regulated towards adults, while completely ignoring servers that present gambling towards kids, while said servers are being shown front and center because they have a popular name tied to them, is the most ironic and hypocritical thing I've seen a company do.

I remember being pissed as a pre-teen that one Wolfe straight-up DMCA'd basically all of Bukkit and thought it was an overzealous thing to do. Now 10 years later and now I know the context behind this and now I think that they were 100% right in DMCA-ing the whole thing, they were practically doing free labor for Mojang under the pretense of an independent open-source project. Shame on Mojang for this type of slimy shit and it really goes to show that they were slimy pieces of shit even pre-Microsoft.

Massive enormous kudos to Bukkit dev. His work was stolen without his knowledge or consent and he did something almost unheard of: use the DMCA system for its intended purpose.

Seph: Development is ending.
Jeb: The project's not _yours_ to discontinue
An unpaid and disgruntled dev: Bet.

The yuti kidnap mod...

I was part of the main server of the Yuti kidnap mod.
That was a fantastic server with a huge security to get in, forbidden to minors. And even when you were on, anything +18 was banned. It was just a comforting realm where adventures could be created with that 'damsel in distress' or 'captured hero/villain' type of fun.
We made many roleplay scenarios of rescues, infiltrations and even rpg stuff for the fun of it. This was my most played minecraft server and i miss it everyday.

Yuti, the creator, was devastated when he was thretened to remove this mod he worked so hard on. This wasn't his first mod, he worked on plenty of games in the past.
The whole community joined in to comfort him and we even pooled together to gift him something to remember this server by.

Mojang > you can't sell mods
Mojang > creates a marketplace for mods to sell on bedrock

It's like when they took down moneplex for having guns, but everyone was so angry that they just stopped. Which is a good thing. Minecraft is a game for everyone mojang says so. Not just for 7 year olds.

Sorry but you did get some of the Pixelmon information wrong.

Pixelmon Reforged didn't come out first, it came out after two different Pixelmon mods merged and became Pixelmon Generations. For some reason people prefer Reforged over Generations based on the lies that Reforged likes to spew, BOTH versions of the new Pixelmon have developers from the original, Reforged just REALLY likes to start drama and spread misinformation. Generations has offered to merge with Reforged multiple times but Reforged continued to refuse. Reforged's drama and toxicity is why Cobblemon exists now, a dev from Reforged quit and made his own Pixelmon. Technically Generations itself as a mod isn't getting updated but now it is an addon to Cobblemon, Devs for it don't want to continue the drama that Reforged seems to enjoy.

The biggest speculation is that the original Pixelmon never actually received a DMCA and that's why they are able to remake Pixelmon again without receiving another, unfortunately there is no real confirmation on this.

that Bukkit story was so unbelievable I honestly am shocked. to think all this server software we still commonly use today is still in many ways tied to such an incident. I'm just glad that dude was actually able to be successful in his code takedown. deserved by Mojang honestly...

Generally speaking... I've said this before about modding.

Any mod should be allowed to exist, so long as that mod isnt illegal or breaking a law of some kind.

People shouldn't discuss any mod that's not fit for the ears of one younger, in a space where theres a reasonable suspicion that someone may not be an adult.

If no one talked about the Jenny mod, it never would've been more mainstream. But people who saw it said "CONTENT" instead of leaving it the fuck alone. They used it as shock value for views, which in turn just exposed their younger audience to something they should've have never been.

Mojang blamed the wrong people in my opinion... Is it weird as fuck? Yes. Is it hurting anyone? When its in the proper channels, no.

Were the people responsible for spreading it, primarily content. creators? Yes. In my opinion, the blame fell mostly on the creators that were responsible...

But also the parents for probably letting their kid have unsolicited access to the net.
