Blake's got hold of a Canyon Endurace, which, fortunately, can fit up to 35mm tyres! After kitting it out with a set of 35 Vittoria Terrano Mixed it's ready to take on some terrain the designers didn't anticipate... the most hardpack, gnarly and rough trails that the Forest of Dean has to offer! This is going to be a wild ride...

I had pro XC friends in the 2000s that I would ride with. They consistently road their road bikes on pretty gnarly, rocky trails. "Underbiking" before it was a thing. I joined them a few times, then realized I wasn't getting my road bike for free like they were and got a MTB.

Canyon: "these bikes are also suitable for gravel paths and off-road trails where a short loss of tyre contact with the ground due to small stairs or steps at a height of 15 to 20 cm can occur."
Blake: "I'll hold my own beer while jumping 2 meters in the air"

As a mountain biker with a gravel bike, I enjoyed watching this! It's AWESOME! 😎🤘💯

Road bikers: if a road bike can take that kind of punishment it's too heavy.

Mtb can be ridden on and off road. Road bikes are strictly for the road.
Blake: hold my Canyon

This brings back the memories of taking my Trek X01 CX bike out in Panorama, BC. Wasn't so bad, but I definitely got fatigued MUCH faster than riding my SC Hightower.

Man, that was insane show. But, this would be not possible without your tremendous skills. Ordinary man probably kill or hurt itself more than dozen times.
Anyway you encourage me to shred some trails in my neighborhood with my no suspension 90's cromoly MTB. I will ventre, its geomety is closer to road bikes than current gravel bikes.
Cheers

This reminds me of a few weeks ago where i was riding my '98 fully rigid mtb on a group ride. We went from gravel to tree root single track. Definitely tested my usage of the right lines, was a different type of fun!

This was awesome! I took a road bike down some singletrack (not as gnarly as this) last year in Portland. It was so fun. I did put flat bars there for control, but the feeling was exhilarating.

I grew up mountain biking on a Trek Antelope. This brought back so many memories, but really highlights why bicycles have become so specialized. A rigid bike can do it all, but at great cost to the rider. Modern bikes have really improved the experience.
