This is one of my all-time favourite races. Watching Rossi open up the 10 seconds like it's nothing. Had been my favourite rider since 1997

Watched this live as a 13-year old at the break of dawn back then. After that Sachsenring low point mid-season, Rossi wasn't taking any prisoners at the time. When the penalty came, you immediately felt "he'll go and trash them all now". Especially after Donington earlier in the season. And he did. There was a certain magic about that time, I really miss that now.

I really miss those bikes. So compact compared to current generation bikes.

The Ducati was always lightening quick, and by 2006 was the total package. Stoner was a great rider, but the Ducati was an absolute weapon.

It's quite remarkable that the qualifying times were so far apart, bu the racing was much closer than today. Look at the different lines they are able to take and the number of overtakes at the front. Great to watch, so much of their performance is because of the riders skill. We need this again. Stop the Aerodynamics! Glad we are going to get rid of the ride height devices at least.
