Water Moccasin chases a human 🐍

Their behavior can vary dramatically. They have seasonal shifts in behavior where they become territorial and hyper aggressive. Be thankful you've never ran into one before.

Actually, they will defend their teratorry very aggressively though, I have seen this first hand.

i wonder if at least part of the reason why they open their mouths is so the cottom white mouth exposes them cuz they know how camouflaged they are, kinda like rattlesnakes and their tails

Snakes are defensive. A human is much larger that they are, so they have absolutely no reason to chase.

Reason they call it cotton mouth, is cause of the color in his mouth. They are stressing snakes, depends on area specially if it’s breast feeding area

I was bitten by a water moccasin when I was 8yo. It was in the grass, and I didn’t see it until it struck my leg! Scared the $hit out of me!!!

People have made them out to be such aggressors and they aren’t. Not that I’ve seen in my life time. I fly fish and wade in rivers so I’ve had them swim right by me a million times. A copperhead is the same way. I find they all stop and give you time if you see them first. You step right next to them and your bit. I got amazing hearing so I hear them first.
