How to Sync Apple Calendar with Google Calendar - Import to your Mac, or end iCal to Google Calendar

Adding the calendar was simple but my iCal appointments don't seem to be pulling into Google. I tried closing and reopening the calendar... no joy. Also, are there any security concerns by having an iCal made public that way?

If I want the apple calendar to post events on my google calendar. How long will the lag time be for this ? From what I am being told google calendar will only pull twice a day with a URL calendar. Is there a work around ?
